Dear BHS Parents and Guardians:
Midterms begin this Thursday at BHS and will continue through next Wednesday. Please encourage your child to prepare for their midterms by reviewing, meeting with their teachers, getting a good night's sleep and coming prepared on test day. Midterms will count for 10% of the final grade. Please review the information below on midterm exams, which includes bussing, breakfast, policies and more.
We hope to see all of our parents tomorrow, Tuesday, January 14th at our January PTO Meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the BHS Library Media Center. The topics to be discussed include: PowerSchool, the PTO bank account, and hearing from the District Leader of Family and Community Engagement about exciting programming that Bloomfield has planned. There will be a Zoom option for families who can not make it in person. The zoom link for the meeting is provided below:

BHS Athletics Update
Boys Basketball:
- On Friday, January 10th, BHS' Varsity Boys Basketball Team defeated Lewis Mills, 57-46.
Girls Basketball:
- On Thursday, January 9th, BHS' Varsity Girls Basketball Co-Op defeated Stafford, 52-21.
- On Friday, January 10th, BHS' Varsity Girls Basketball Co-Op fell to East Granby, 24-41.
Boys and Girls Track:
- On Friday, January 10th, BHS' Varsity Track Team competed at The Varsity Night Meet at Floyd Little Athletic Center, New Haven. Top finishers for the team were:
- Caleah Baker placed 2nd in the 200 Meters
- Soleigh Dixon placed 1st in the 400 Meters and 2nd in the High Jump
- Romar Heron placed 2nd in the High Jump
- Kiersten Golding placed 5th in the Long Jump
- On Friday, January 10th and Saturday, January 11th, BHS' Varsity Track Team competed at the Yale Interscholastic Track Classic at Yale University. Top finishers for the team were:
- Saphyr Brown placed 2nd in the 55 Meters and 3rd in the Long Jump
- Vanessa Agyemang finished 1st in the Long Jump and 3rd in the 55 Meter Hurdles
- Delante Senior finished 5th in the 55 Meter Hurdles
- The 4x2 Relay of Zion Banton, Zakyi Kimber, Sergio Rose and Tacqori jackson finished 4th in the Small Schools Race
- The 4x4 Relay of Jahiem Lawrence, Jessie Singleton Jr., Steven White and Delante Senior finished 4th in the Championship Race
- Payton Sirdine finished 5th in the Shot Put
- April Nathaniel finished 6th in the Long Jump and 4th in the Triple Jump
- Jessie Singleton Jr. finished 1st in the Triple Jump and 6th in the Long Jump
- On Saturday, January 11th, BHS' Varsity Track Team competed at the Hillhouse Freshmen, Sophomore, Novice Meet at Floyd Little Athletic Center, New Haven. Top finishers for the team were:
- Tiffany Easmon finished 4th in the Freshmen 55 Meters and 4th in the Freshmen 300 Meters
- Triston Matthews finished 3rd in the Freshmen 55 Meters and 1st in the Freshmen 300 Meters
- Leaghana Walker finished 1st in the Novice 55 Meters
- Taye Jones finished 5th in the Novice 55 Meters
- Eric Gamble finished 3rd in the Freshmen 300 Meters and 1st in the Freshmen 600 Meters
- Asa Ettienne-Modeste finished 5th in the Sophomore 300 Meters and 3rd in the Sophomore 600 Meters
- Layla Reid-Jones finished 5th in the Novice 55 Meter Hurdles
- Jacob Raines finished 5th in the Sophomore 55 Meter Hurdles
- The 4x2 Relay of Ashlynn Anderson, Tiffany Easmon, Hailey Peterkin and Leaghana Walker placed 5th

Midterms
Midterms will begin at BHS on January 16th and continue through January 22nd. The schedule for midterms is as follows:
- January 16: Period 1 and 2 Exams
- January 17: Period 3 and 4 Exams
- January 21: Period 5 and 6 Exams
- January 22: Period 7 and Makeup Exams
What you need to know about Midterms:
- Exams will be scheduled for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Students should attend school only for those sessions in which they will have exams. (7:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.) and (9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.).
- A semester grade for full-year courses will be computed by awarding a 20% weight for each of the two marking periods and a 10% weight to the semester exam. Semester classes will award 40% for each of the two marking periods and a 20% weight to the final exam.
- Semester exams are required in all classes except where excused by the principal.
- A failing exam grade will be given to students not attending a scheduled exam.
The cafeteria will serve refreshments on exam days. It will be open between 7:20 a.m. and 9:25 a.m. Cafeteria lines will close 5 minutes prior to the start time for each exam.
Students must take exams on the day they are scheduled. No changes will be made without administrative approval.
Make up exams are scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on each exam day. A make-up permission slip must be obtained from an administrator and presented to the teacher before the make-up period.
Students who arrive late for an exam must report to the office. In most instances, students will not be permitted to enter an exam late.
Buses will run on their regular routes in the morning. Students will be dropped home following the late bus routes. The late bus routes can be found below.

BHS Students In UCONN Human Rights Course Attend Human Rights Summit
On Wednesday, January 8th, students from Mr. Siegel's UCONN ECE Human Rights course attended the 4th Annual Human Rights Close to Home Youth Summit at The University of Connecticut. This one-day summit was designed by youth for youth and convenes high school students, activists, and allies from around Connecticut to learn and mobilize as a community. Throughout the day at the 2025 Youth Summit, students and educators participated in workshops and activities designed by youth and interacted with a wide range of speakers, from fellow youth activists to professional human rights advocates. The goal at each youth summit is to provide powerful learning experiences that enable and encourage attendees to take action for human rights back in their local communities.
BHS Senior, Taylor Jackson currently serves on the Human Rights Close To Home (HRCH) Youth Advisory Team responsible for running this years summit.
BHS Students Participate in Electrical Apprenticeship Information Session
On Wednesday, January 8th, interested BHS students participated in an information session on electrical apprenticeships with HEJATC Training Director, Frank Puzzo. This is a follow up to the trades panel held last month, which showcased numerous trades. Any student interested in an electrical apprenticeship, must apply in person at 208 Murphy Road, Hartford between the hours of 8-12 a.m., Monday thru Friday. Testing is in April and you must be signed up by March in order to test. More information can be found in the booklet attached below.
Believe Academy Transition Program Update
BHS' Believe Academy Transition Program for post-graduates, ages 18-22, helps students to learn work skills. These students are now showcasing those skills in a variety of community settings, 2-3 times per week with adult support. Thank you to our current work sites, which include: TJ Burritos, Auer Farm, ReStore and Fitness with Jonathan. BHS' Believe Academy also runs a coffee station for BHS faculty and staff daily at the high school. Check out some great pictures below of our students hard at work.
