LSE Mission & Vision
Vision: Lone Star Elementary will empower students with knowledge, character, and leadership skills, preparing them to tackle life’s challenges and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
Mission: WE WILL LEAD
Learn each day
Empower others
Accept everyone
Develop our greatness
Car Rider Line Reminder - Left Turn Lane
Please remember that our car rider line queues on 2854 on the school side of the street and turns in the right turn lane. Please do not use the left turn lane to try to enter the car rider line, as this blocks buses trying to get to the bus ramp. If you are coming from that direction you will need to go past the school and make a u-turn.
Bus Tag Reminder
Please do not punch holes into the SMARTtag bus tags. They must go inside a clear plastic protector to attach to a backpack. When a hole is punched into the tag, the chip inside will not work and the tag will not read on the SMARTtag scanners.
Watch D.O.G.S. Sign-up Info
The Watch DOGS sign up genius for this semester will be sent to those who have turned in both the Watch DOGS form and district background check. Please only sign up for ONE day- we want to be able to give everyone who would like to participate the opportunity.
Forms can be found below:

Stowe's Sticky Notes
It's April and Spring is fully here! We are loving the warmer days, but Spring also means more rain showers and more mud. You may want to send younger students to school with a change of shoes for recess/after recess. We also have 4 field trips this month! This week our Kindergarteners and our CARES students will attend their trips and Pre-K and 1st grade will attend later this month.
There are lots of other Spring activities and events headed our way. Be sure to check out the PTA Basket fundraiser, purchase your yearbook, and order your child's artwork memories from Square 1 Art.
We're also getting ready to undergo some major construction and renovations this Summer, with some preparations starting these last few months of this school year. These renovations are part of the School Bond package that MISD voters approved in 2022. We're excited to get some much needed improvements that will bring our school more comparable to MISD schools that have been built over the past few years.
Here's just a sample of some of the projects:
New smart panels to replace smart boards and projectors in all classrooms
New digital signage in select areas- dismissal areas, gym, etc.
New projector and sound system in the cafeteria and gym
New stepped stage in cafeteria cove with new lighting package
Replacing all exterior fences
Replace all exterior glass block in gym and cafe with glass
Repaint interior with new color palette with each hallway a different color
Retile all of the bathrooms with modern tile that matches the new color palette
Replace the community handwashing stations with individual stations
Repaint all classrooms, add an accent wall
Replace kitchen glass block with storefront glass
Replace gym floor and cafe/gym wall
Replace gym basketball goals
Removal of middle library shelves (replaced with moveable shelves)
Continue to update lighting throughout the building
New elevation design for the exterior with new signage
Construction in the front office suite will begin soon after school hours and then move to some of the classroom areas, again after school hours. You'll begin to see construction job trailers and storage trailers as soon as this week. Staff will begin preparing for full construction to start at the end of the school year, so please pardon our appearance as we prepare for these exciting changes and updates.

AP's Notes
Regular and timely attendance is essential for student success. Recently, we’ve noticed a significant increase in tardies and early departures schoolwide. This trend impacts instructional time and can lead to gaps in learning that are difficult to recover.
Our district policy emphasizes the importance of attendance:
- 10 tardies or early departures: Parents will receive an official notification letter.
- 15 tardies or early departures: The student will be required to complete one hour of credit recovery, either before or after school.
- Every additional 5 tardies or early departures: Another hour of credit recovery will be assigned.
We kindly ask for your support in reversing this trend by ensuring your child arrives on time and stays until the end of the school day. Together, we can create a positive and productive learning experience for all students! Thank you for your partnership.
Nurse's Notes
Hello Longhorn, Families! Please inspect your child's hair for headlice and if you see any nits or live lice, please treat your child's hair and follow the instructions on the container for repeat hair treatments and cleaning of household items. Please remind your students to not share hairbrushes, hair ties/headbands, hats, jackets, etc. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Arrival and Dismissal Notes
Do NOT park in a handicap space for any amount of time unless you have a handicap sticker. We have families that need to use these spaces.
If you are parking and not using the car rider line, you must walk your children into the vestibule. Students can only be dropped off on the car rider line.
If you arrive after 8:15am, you will need to park in the parking lot and escort your children inside for a tardy pass. Students may not be dropped off at the curb.
Transportation changes can be made through PikMyKid up until 2pm each day. Click on the calendar to update your dismissal method. It's always a good idea to let the teacher know via email/dojo/bloomz just in case.
The last time to check out a student early is 3:00pm. If you have an emergency, please contact the front office.
School ends each day 3:40pm and dismissal begins at that time. Please keep these times and the time it takes to dismiss all students in mind as you register students for extra-curricular activities.
At dismissal, if you need to buckle a child into a seat for car rider, after your child is safely in the car, please pull forward into a visitor parking spot so that you can safely buckle in your child and keep our line moving.
Updated Snack Procedures from Child Nutrition
The MISD Child Nutrition department has updated the number and grade spans for snacks to be consistent across all MISD Elementary campuses. This means that technically Kindergarten students could purchase an ice cream every day. In the past we had limited lower grades to just one day per week.
If you need to place a restriction on your child's lunch account so that they aren't charging a snack (or two!) every day, please reach out to our cafeteria manager, Erica Cedillo, at erica.cedillo@misd.org.
