December 18, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Estimada comunidad de Woodcrest,
It’s hard to believe that winter break is here already! During the first few months of this school year, it has been wonderful to see our students participating in morning meetings to build community in their classrooms, developing language and vocabulary in Spanish, working collaboratively with each other and smiling a lot. This is all thanks to our wonderful teachers and staff who design meaningful experiences for our students every day. They put their hearts into their work with our students and I am so grateful to them.
There is no school Monday, December 23 through Wednesday, January 1 for winter break. We will see students back in school Thursday, January 2. While that will be a very short week, those couple of days will be important for getting the calendar year started and reestablishing our routines and school-wide expectations.
Thank you for completing another pulse check last week with Possip! We saw that 97% of our families are happy or mostly happy with Woodcrest, which is wonderful news to all of us here at Woodcrest. Some of the themes that came up in this pulse check are:
Praise for the supportive teachers and staff who have connected with the students
Appreciation for the different after school activities available to students
Requests for more communication about student grades and progress in class
We are taking all of your feedback and ideas into consideration for our future planning and follow-up. Thank you for sharing!
I hope everything has a restful winter break. I look forward to seeing everyone in the new year!
Sincerely,
Jaime Nymann
Principal

Our doors open at 8:55 a.m. There is no supervision for students before this time. Please do not leave your children on school grounds unsupervised. Our staff have other duties before 8:55 a.m. and are not available to supervise students.
Please do not park along the side of the parking lots or “make” spaces that are not marked.
Please do not park in marked handicapped spots if you do not have the appropriate tag/sticker.
Please follow directions from staff to help with safety and traffic flow.
Dismissal:
If your child will go home in a different way than usual, you must call the office by 3 p.m. so we have time to communicate this to the teacher.
Please ensure you have your child’s pick-up number with you when you are picking up your child from school. If you have lost it, you can request another one from the office.
When parking in the afternoon, please only use parking spaces that are marked. Do not park along the sides of parking lots or create your own parking spot.
Please do not park in handicap spots if you do not have the appropriate tag/sticker.

Parking:
Please only use the main parking lot and the side parking lot by the park if you plan to leave your car.
The staff parking lot (horseshoe shaped lot) is only for drop off and pick up while you stay in your car. Drop off and pick up should be quick processes. If your child needs extra time, please park in one of the other lots to drop-off or pick-up your child.

If your family is in need of extra support with food on weekends please contact Rachel Perez, the social worker here at Woodcrest Spanish Immersion.

Students Bring Big Ideas to Life in ‘Shark Tank’ Style Competition
Spring Lake Park High School students in the year-long Marketing and Entrepreneurship class recently stepped into the spotlight to pitch their creative business ideas in the annual “Shark Tank”-style competition. After months of hard work, 12 student groups showcased their product or service ideas to local judges.
Students dreamed big. There were AI-powered glasses to sharpen your golf game. There was an eco-friendly mobile thrift shop. There was a sturdy case intended to extend the life of baseball gloves, and a closet organizer app designed to simplify busy mornings.
In the first round, students presented three times to different panels of judges. Judges were then tasked with rating the pitches. After the scores were tallied, six teams advanced to the final round.
We caught up with the finalists to hear about their ideas, how this unique class is shaping their future goals and what it’s like to pitch their ideas to real-world business pros.
