Homework Club
Starting in late February, Lodi Middle School will launch a Homework Club during lunch every Friday to provide additional academic support for students. This initiative is designed to help students stay on track with their coursework and improve their grades. Any student currently earning a D or F in a class will be required to attend, giving them dedicated time to focus on completing assignments, reviewing material, and getting extra help as needed. Our goal is to provide a structured environment where students can catch up on their work, build better study habits, and boost their confidence in learning and staying on top of their school work.
Take care and see you soon!

Free Piano Available - Must Arrange Pickup
Lodi Middle School has an old piano that is nearing the end of its life and is looking to donate it to someone who could give it a new home. If you are interested, please note that you would be responsible for all moving expenses and arrangements. This is a great opportunity for anyone who might want a piano for practice or restoration. If you would like to arrange to see it, contact Derek Pertzborn at pertzde@lodischoolswi.org.
How to Support My Child in Middle School
Early adolescents crave independence at a time when they are still developing self-control and the ability to predict the long-term consequences of their actions.
Families can support students in fostering independence by building supportive routines and structures. Examples of supportive routines and structures may be schedules or checklists for task completion, such as a morning routine. It is best to make these structures collaboratively with your middle school student.
Things to Ask Your Kids....(3 Questions Each Month)
Here are three questions to ask your teen this week to get them to open up:
1. What's something you've been really into lately (music, games, hobbies, etc.)?
2. Who do you usually sit with at lunch, and what do you all talk about?
3. If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
Charge Chromebooks
Students need to charge their Chromebook each night so that it is ready for the next school day. Please make sure that your child is doing this each night. If a student cannot find their charger, please contact tech support at techsupport@lodischoolswi.org.

Student of the Month - December - Perseverance
Congratulations to the Students of the Month - December for being nominated for their perseverance. Perseverance is persistence in working in working towards a goal and is usually noticeable when things are challenging. Having perseverance is a lifelong skill that will help students achieve long-term goals in their education and in life.
Spelling Bee - Congratulations Participants
Congratulations to all the students that participated in the district-wide spelling bee! Earning a spot in this competition is a tremendous achievement, as each of you had to win your class spelling bee to qualify. Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance were on full display as you tackled challenging words with confidence and poise. Keep striving for excellence, and we look forward to seeing your continued success!
Congratulations to Caiden Rea and Gigi Ripp for their outstanding performance in the district-wide spelling bee! Both of these students proudly represented Lodi Middle School at the regional spelling bee in Portage on January 28. A special congratulations to Caiden Rea for placing 2nd in the regionals, earning him a spot at the State Spelling Bee in March. Way to go, Gigi and Caiden!
All School Assembly - Student vs. Staff - Volleyball
The annual Student vs. Staff Volleyball Game was a thrilling and fun-filled event that brought energy and excitement to Lodi Middle School. Students and staff faced off in friendly yet competitive matches, showcasing teamwork, spirit, and plenty of impressive plays. Laughter and cheers filled the gym as teams gave it their all. A big thank you to all of the participants and spectators for making the event a success! Luckily, no staff members were injured during the event.
Attendance Matters
Attendance Matters
Showing up for school on a regular basis has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and become more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important to success in school and life.
Attendance Protocol
This is a reminder of the importance of reporting an absence if a student is going to be missing from school. Families can complete the Absence Form (button below) instead of calling or emailing the office; however, if you have questions or are unable to complete this form, you can still call the attendance line: (608) 592-3854 x 0 or email the school office at msoffice@lodischoolswi.org.
This form is also accessible through the Lodi Middle School Homepage with the link that says "Report an Absence" on the main page.

Message from LCAT
The Lodi Community Action Team (LCAT) was established in 2007 to address alcohol use among teens in the Lodi area. Over time, LCAT began to analyze the data collected in the community and assess actual events. This led to efforts to educate the community about the dangers of risky behaviors and promote a safer environment for our children.
In the winter of 2024, a strategic plan was developed to guide LCAT's initiatives. This plan is built on three key pillars: engage, empower, and elevate. With these pillars in mind, we aim to fulfill our mission of empowering our school and community to prevent youth substance use through education, environmental prevention strategies, and fostering connections with caring adults. Our quarterly newsletter is a way to share projects, events, trainings, and meetings.

Happy Winter! I hope everyone is staying warm!
We have exciting news to share! Our Taher Regional Chef Camilo Garavito will be doing Chef on Display here at the Middle School on February 12th. Chef Camilo will be making Korean BBQ Pulled Pork Tacos and Asian Slaw. Please come down and meet Chef Camilo say hi and enjoy some Korean food. He will be serving the whole lunch hour for all three lunches. We will be posting flyers soon. Check it out! We want to expose you to different culture cuisines so please come down and try his food!
Our February menu has lots of fun foods on it. Our Harvest of the Month fruit is pear, vegetable is beets and spice is oregano. We will have lots of fresh pears on the salad bar and on the regular menus. We will also serve sliced and diced pears. Students will also get to try beets this month. We will do a beet salad and pickled beets-please make sure and try them they are delicious! The spice this month is oregano. We use oregano in a lot of our dishes especially the Italian Grilled Cheese sandwich, Greek oven roasted potatoes, marinara sauce, pizza sauce and lots more. This month we will also be trying collard greens for the first time. Taste test them and let us know whether you liked them or not. Another new item we are trying is oven fried chicken and homemade cornbread. We are also running some breakfast items for lunch features this month. Ham, egg and cheese on a biscuit and pancakes with homemade egg bake. YUM!
One item I really would like to highlight this month is our Vegetarian Meatless Taco. Please give them a try and let us know if we should run them on the menus again in the future. We hope you like our new additions and would really appreciate your feedback on these items. Your feedback helps us decide what to put on your menus. Speak up and make your likes and dislikes known to us so we are able to do the menus you want.
Everyone stay warm!

Nurses Notes: February 2025
Heart Awareness Month:
February is American Heart Month, which gives each of us an opportunity to motivate our students, family, and friends to promote healthier decisions and steps to prevent heart disease. Taking care of your heart can be challenging during our daily lives but small acts of self-care, exercise, quality sleep, and cooking healthy meals can help your heart.
National Wear Red Day Friday, 7th
Dental Awareness Month:
This is a great time for a reminder of dental health for your child(s) and family. Some basic reminders with your child(s) will help them to maintain healthy oral health. I have included two resources if you are interested in services at school or low cost dental service at Madison College.
Dental Resource at School: Bridging Brighter Smiles
Dental Information from Madison College: In February, Madison Hygiene Clinic is offering free dental cleaning. Please contact them at 1-608-258-2400. Space is limited so it’s recommended that you call to check availability. Without the offer the clinic does offer cleaning, x-rays, and examination for $40.00. Click on this link for more information Dental Hygiene Clinic
Illness:
It's that time of year that we have seen an increase around our area and state of respiratory illnesses such as Influenza, COVID, or Pneumonia. We have been monitoring and increasing cleaning throughout the schools including a reeducation with all students of the importance of handwashing. Frequent handwashing is one best way to avoid getting sick and spreading illness. Although it’s impossible to keep hands germ-free, washing hands with soap and water throughout the day can help limit the transfer of bacteria, viruses, and other microbes.
Basic steps to help prevent the spread of illness:
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your mouth and nose CDC Link.
Clean your hands CDC Link. Frequent hand-washing is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick and spreading illness. It is a good reminder to wash your hands throughout the day.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Please keep your child home if they have the following symptoms:
Fever (100.0 degrees or more without the use of fever reducing medication)
Vomiting (must be 24 hours vomit free before returning to school)
Diarrhea (must be 24 hours diarrhea free before returning to school)
If they have been diagnosed with the flu or COVID then they will need to stay home until they are 24 hours fever free without fever reducing medication and their symptoms are improved (when they are feeling well and can actively participate in school)
Chills, body aches, or active cough (cannot control coughing and coughing frequently), it’s ok to have an occasional cough
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Lost and Found
Not sure where that sweatshirt went? Don’t know where that water bottle is? Each month we will post pictures of lost and found items.
