WATCH US GROW! Family Newsletter: January 9th 2025
A Note from the Principal
Welcome to 2025!
Welcome to the new year at Whitman! As we embark on this exciting journey into 2025 together, I want to express my deep gratitude for your partnership and unwavering support. Your role in encouraging your student’s learning and engagement is vital to their success, and I am thankful every day for such a dedicated and caring community.
As we approach the end of the semester, it is a perfect time to reflect on the progress our students have made and encourage their perseverance in wrapping up the semester in a positive way. Your encouragement at home—whether by fostering good study habits, celebrating achievements, or simply asking about their day—plays a vital role in their growth and focus. With Winter STAR testing next week, it is paramount that students get plenty of rest and come to school ready to show how they have grown since this fall.
As always, our team is here to support you and your child every step of the way. Together, let’s continue to create a nurturing and dynamic environment where our students reach their full potential and are prepared for life outside of our Whitman walls.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education. I look forward to a wonderful 2025.
Warm regards,
Sarah Dianich, Proud Whitman Principal
What learning looks like at Whitman:
Sr. Myers' 6th grade were highly engaged in 7th hour Espanol!
They were applying their number knowledge to schedules and answering questions.
Students did a gallery walk of progressively more difficult vocabulary.
Important Change To Our Student Pickup Process - Effective Immediately
To ensure the continued safety of our students and enhance our security, students will no longer be allowed to leave the building alone during the school day. Instead, we will now require the adult(s) authorized to pick up your student to come to the front entrance of the building and ring the doorbell before we release the student. This protocol will allow us to verify the identity of the person picking up the student and record a timestamped image of them. This process will be enforced for anyone picking up a student early from Whitman and will not impact regular dismissal procedures.
We understand this change may require adjustments to your usual routine, but this change is being implemented in the best interest of our students' safety. Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated as we implement this new procedure.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this change, please contact me.
Thank you,
Sarah Dianich, Whitman Principal

GoGuardian Parent Portal
Dear Wauwatosa School District Families,
To encourage our students' responsible use of technology outside of school, the WSD provides all 6-12th grade parents with the GoGuardian Parent app. The GoGuardian Parent app allows you to control your student’s internet use on their school-issued Chromebook outside of school hours.
Go Guardian Parent allows you to:
Monitor Activity: You can view your child’s top 5 visited domains and GSuite files, providing insight into their online habits.
Teacher Interventions: See how many times teachers have guided your child’s browsing behavior by closing tabs, locking browsing, opening specified tabs, or blocking access to websites.
Browsing Logs: Access all browsing activity by domain logged within the Chrome browser for your child’s managed Google account.
Filtering Settings: Configure which sites your child cannot access while considered “out of school.” You can also pause internet access on-demand or schedule specific periods of no internet access.
We believe that GoGuardian Parent will be a powerful tool in helping you ensure your child’s online safety and productivity. Follow these directions to set up your Go Guardian Parent account today.
If you have questions or need assistance setting up GoGuardian Parent, please submit a Technology Help Desk Ticket.
Thank you for your continued support.
Chromebook Chargers Policy and Replacements
All students are responsible to turn in a Dell charger at the end of the year or a $40.00 fee will be placed on their account for a replacement. NOTE: Cheap chargers from amazon are not accepted. To purchase a OEM Dell replacement from amazon please use this link: https://a.co/d/iT6Go19

Headphones in the Classroom
Despite what students might say, headphones/earbuds are not an appropriate fashion accessory in a school or professional setting. As such, students will be instructed to put them away while in class and they should remain away unless students have been given the instruction to use them for essential and educational purposes. Refusal to follow this expectation will result in a referral for a Technology Violation and consequences will be be determined in accordance with our district's Disciplinary Framework.
