PTO Shoe Drive
Our amazing PTO is doing a shoe drive fundraiser. All you need to do is clean out your closet and bring in your gently used shoes or new shoes. These shoes will then be shipped to a company that will repair and clean them up and donate to people in need.
This is a great way to clean out your closet, help someone in need, AND help our PTO raise funds. Three WINS in one simple act of kindness.
Girl Scouts
Know someone who would like to join girls scouts? Give them this information!
This is a great way for students to get involved and learn skills for life.
Red Ribbon Week is Coming
JISD will celebrate Red Ribbon Week October 21st-25th. Life is a Movie is the theme and we will roll out the red carpet for this event.
We want to show our students that we can have fun while being drug free.
Parent Education Night
We invite you to join us for a crucial meeting to discuss the growing issue of human trafficking and how we can work together to safeguard our children. Topics covered will include:
-Defining trafficking/legal definitions
-Vulnerabilities
-Case studies (to help understand both vulnerabilities and what trafficking looks like)
-Exploiter Profiles (challenging stereotypes exploiters look like)
-Victim Blaming
-Signs to watch for (in person and online)
-Safety Planning
This program is built to help caregivers identify vulnerabilities and understand what child trafficking looks like. The content is going to be more relevant to parents of middle school and high school students.
Bullying Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. It's an opportunity to raise awareness about bullying and how to work together to stop it.
At Jarrell ISD, we have policies, including David's Law, to address bullying. We also have educational courses to teach students that harassment, including bullying or cyberbullying, is wrong. Additionally, the district has other resources to address bullying.
Please notify Officer Champion, AP's, counselors, communities in schools or another adult if you notice a student is being bullied or suspect something is not quite right. YOU are on the front lines and you will notice before we will.
Anonymous Alerts is website platform and an app where students, parents, or community members can report bullying, peer pressure, or other concerns. T
Addressing bullying is a shared responsibility, and when schools and parents unite in their efforts, they create a powerful support system for students. Working together builds an environment where every child feels safe, valued, and empowered against bullying. Together, let us take a firm stand against bullying and commit to nurturing a compassionate community.
NOTE: Unity Day is on Wednesday, October 16th. The nationwide movement encourages people to wear orange as a unified effort to stop bullying. Below is more information about Unity Day.
Contact Information
In an effort to keep our lines of communication open we wanted to take a moment to encourage you to verify that your contact information is correct.
Not only do teachers want to be able to reach you but the nurse may need to reach you in the event your child becomes ill. In addition, information is sent out via email, parent square, and phone calls from our campus and district regarding events or updates.
Please take a few moments to verify that the contact information we have for you is correct. You should be able to make edits in Parent Portal of Ascender.
Learning at Home
We continue to encourage parents and students to review learning strategies at home. Today we will look at some strategies for language arts and reading.
- Encourage your student to choose a book they want to read on their own each day.
- Pick a topic you can learn about together.
- Ask your student what they learned in their reading.
- Encourage regular writing: keeping a journal, writing letters or emails.
If we continue to work together in partnership I believe that as a JMS Community we will continue to grow and be successful.
A Note from Your Principal
October is here! Bring on the cooler weather, fall decorations, and warmer clothes. This is my absolute favorite time of year. Fall makes me reminisce about outdoor fires in the fire pit, hay rides, smores, decorating pumpkins, homecoming, and fall carnivals. Love those memories!
We want our students to have fall memories that they love also. As we wind down the first nine weeks I am so excited to announce that we will be giving away two bikes in just a couple of weeks! All students that had perfect attendance will go into a drawing and we will draw one boy and one girl to receive a free bike!
This week is the last week of the nine weeks. Please check your students grades and make sure they have turned in all of their work. Teachers are working long hours to make sure everything is getting graded in a timely manner.
We have homecoming November 8th and the parade is on the 6th. The Jarrell community does a fantastic job of supporting this event and I look forward to seeing all of the smiling faces.
