On Wednesday, We took our annual School-Wide Character Counts photo. On Thursday, our Second Grade classes visited the Fleet Science Center where they were able to watch an iMAX movie and explore the museum. On Friday, our Kindergarten classes visited the stunning Carlsbad Flower Fields. The week ended with another fantastic family event from out PTO - The "All Things OZ" Spring Dance! Dear Parents/Guardians,
PUSD 2025-2026 Continuing Student Registration is open!

Packets can be completed using any computer, tablet or smartphone with an internet connection.
Continuing Registration Steps:
Login and complete the digital registration packet via the online registration portal found here.
Review and complete any required forms located at the conclusion of the process. A packet is not considered finalized until this step is completed.
Please note: MEDICATION FORMS or ADDITIONAL SIGNED SITE SPECIFIC FORMS WILL NOT BE COLLECTED UNTIL SCHOOL BEGINS IN AUGUST FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR.

READING DIFFICULTIES RISK SCREENER UPDATE
What is the CA Reading Difficulties Risk Screener?
The CA Reading Difficulties Risk Screener (RDRS) is a tool that is used annually with all K-2 students to assess their early reading skills. The RDRS is used to identify students who may be at risk of reading difficulties and need additional support in reading and literacy to ensure success in school. The RDRS screening process will begin in the 2025-2026 school year.
Why is the RDRS important?
The screener helps identify reading difficulties in the primary grades, giving students the best chance to improve their reading skills. By identifying challenges early, teachers can offer targeted support and interventions that help all students become confident readers. Early identification and support lead to better outcomes in literacy and overall academic success.
How does the RDRS work?
The screener will be administered to students in the primary grades (Kindergarten through 2nd grade) through a series of short assessments focused on foundational reading skills. The results help teachers understand where a student may be struggling and whether further assessment or intervention is needed.
RDRS Community Input Meeting
Learning Support Services will be hosting a Community Input Meeting on April 1, 2025 from 5:00-5:45 pm. We invite parents and community members to join our Community Input Meeting to ensure all voices are heard in selecting new learning materials for our schools. Community feedback is essential in choosing resources that support student success, reflect our district’s values, and align with educational goals. This meeting will be held via Zoom, and can be accessed HERE.
For more information, please click here for an infographic explaining the RDRS selection process and timeline.

CATCHING UP WITH... Picture Books for Our Families
Specially Curated Books from Ms. Alice Burge, CVES Library & Media Tech (& CVES Classified Employee of the Year!)
The month of April is a celebration of all things library, including School Library Month and National Library Week, recognized every year during the second week in April. Libraries provide schools and communities with spaces and places to connect, share stories, build literacy and foster a love of lifelong learning. Enjoy these picture books highlighting the importance of reading and the crucial role that libraries play in our lives
Note: The Covers link to YouTube read-aloud videos, be aware that ads may pop-up!Dreamers, written and illustrated by Yuyi Morales
When she came to the United States with her infant son in 1994, the author left behind many of her material possessions, while carrying her hopes, her passion, her strength, and her stories with her. Dreamers is a story of finding your way and making your home in an unfamiliar place. This gorgeously illustrated picture book memoir explores the myriad gifts that immigrants bring with them when they leave their homeland. Drawing from her own experiences, Yuyi Morales created a beautiful story about family, resilience and the transformative power of libraries.
The Book No One Ever Read, written and illustrated by Cornelia Funke
What if books want to be read as much as we want to read them? This is certainly true of our hero, Morry, a young book who is tired of standing still on a shelf amid dignified first editions, and yearns for the excitement of sharing his story with a child. The books and illustrations in the story pay tribute to some of Cornelia Funke's favorite authors – Toni Morrison, Robert Louis Stevenson, Jane Austen, Victor Hugo, Shel Silverstein, Frank L. Baum, and many others are represented on the shelves of the library the story is set in. Readers may also recognize the inspiration for Morry from Maurice Sendak’s classic story, Where the Wild Things Are.
The Loud Librarian, written by Jenna Beatrice, illustrated by Erika Lynne Jones
A little librarian with a larger-than-life voice finds her place in this sweet and uproarious picture book about being true to yourself—no shushing required!
Penelope is perfect for the job of student-librarian. Friendly? Check. Helpful? Check. Book lover? Check. There’s just one snag. Penelope is… just too loud! Bookcases may topple over and the floor may quake at the awesome sound of her voice, but Penelope is determined to prove she’s perfect for the job and also stay true to herself. Can a little librarian with a big voice find a place where she belongs?
CATCHING UP WITH... Parking Lot Safety Reminders
IMPORTANT NOTICE: THE GREEN CONE ZONE IS FOR SPECIAL DAY CLASS FAMILIES ONLY
Additional Parking Lot Reminders
- Attention TK/K Families: You are not required to park and walk students to the gate for drop-off. Use our drive-through drop-off instead. We have supervision from the curb to the blacktop from 8:20 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Please continue to park and pick-up from the gate at dismissal.
- Attention Grade 1-5 Families: Do not park in the lot for drop-off or pick-up. Instead, use the supervised drive-through pick-up curb west of the office. This allows sufficient parking for our staff, and TK/Kindergarten families.
- Curbside Drop-off/Pick-Up: Use our designated drop-off/pick-up area to the west of the office only. Do not ask your child to meet you anywhere else in the lot. While this might seem faster for you, it slows down our system for everyone and creates a safety hazard.
