Brown Elementary Update
September 20, 2024
From the Desk of Dr. Cole Harms
Happy Friday Brown Bears!
We had a wonderful Open House Night last night. I loved all of the energy and excitement in the building! Watching families get to know their students' teachers and teachers getting to know families is what this night is all about. We are a truly remarkable Brown Community!
This week marks our second full week of school, and things are really starting to come together into the routine of school. Even our littlest learners know their way around the building without any trouble! I've been fortunate enough to spend some time in classrooms reading stories and getting to know your students. We've had a lot of conversations about the different kinds of Doctors there are and they are eager to learn exactly what kind of Doctor I am! (In case you are curious, I tell them I am a Doctor of Learning!)
Each week we start the day with two 4th grade students reading the morning announcements. It is a great way for them to practice public speaking, and I love hearing the different voices each day. Each day we have a different theme :
- "Make a Joke Monday," when students will be submitting a school-appropriate joke to share on Mondays with the answer shared out on Friday;
- "Talk about it Tuesday," when students pose a "would you rather" question for students to discuss with classmates and friends;
- "Way above Wednesdays," when students get a shout out for going above and beyond;
- "Think about it Thursday," when students are chosen to select a quote that means something to them;
- And, finally, "Feel your Best Friday," when the school counselors share tips about how to feel your best--and we also share the answer to the joke from Monday!
Have a great weekend!
