We always hope for our children to be relaxed and carefree, but sometimes they may experience stress and anxiety for a variety of reasons. I would like to share an article from Psychology Today about Five Anxiety Lowering Strategies for Children. These suggestions are not only good for children but for all of us. Click on the link to open the article and learn more about each strategy. Here are the five strategies:
1. Breathing with them.
2. Helping children get rid of ANTS (Automatic Negative Thoughts).
3. Using exposure strategies.
4. Guiding the child with calming visualizations.
5. Encouraging the child to make a "things that went right today"

7th Grade Football: The Parson’s Project vs. Wall MS
Colby Croxton rec. the opening kickoff to set-up the Vikings on their own 40yd. line. The Vikings 1st play of the night had Logan Parsons make a 60yd (+30 yds back across the field) touchdown run. However, it was nullified by a block in the back behind the ball carrier and the Vikings were then intercepted by the Hawks on the next play to end the drive. The Vikings gave a little ground and then stiffened on defense with Jeremy Hill, Hayden Chapman, Logan Parsons, Tony Reyes and Mickey D’Ambrose making tackles. The next possession for the Vikings had Logan Parsons scamper 50yds for a touchdown. D’Ambrose had a driving block downfield. The two pt. pass from Phillips to Chapman was good. Vikings - 8 & Wall – 0.
In the 2nd quarter after the Viking kickoff, Bryce Jackson intercepted the Hawk pass. The Vikings handed-off to Logan Parsons & he went around the left end down the sideline for another Viking touchdown. Arthur Munoz, D’Ambrose, Nathan McKee & Jordan Johnston had good blocks on the play. The 2pt. play was no good. Vikings – 14 & Wall – 0. The Hawks next possession earned a T.D. & 2 pts. Vikings - 14 & Wall - 8. The Vikings recovered the Wall kick and on the first play from scrimmage, Logan Parsons took the Phillips handoff and raced 61yds for the touchdown. Mckee had a good block while Parson made 6 Hawks miss tackles. The 2 pt. was no good. Vikings – 20 & Wall – 8. The Hawks and Vikings traded possessions and then Wall struck paydirt. Tony Reyes, Cheyene LeBlanc, Colby Croxton, D’Ambrose, Chapman, Parsons & Jeremy Hill all had stops on the Hawk drive. The Wall 2 pt. was no good after Parson made the tackle short of the goalline. Vikings – 20 & Wall 14.
In the 3rd qtr. Scott Shepard made a nice run for 13 yds before the Hawks stopped the drive. On the Hawks next possession the scored again to up on the Vikings. Vikings – 20 & Wall – 22. However, in the 4th quarter the Vikings were not done. Parsons had a 33yd run and then Phillips had a 10 yd run before Parson next run was a 21 yd T.D.
Parsons also converted the 2pt. try. Vikings - 28 & Wall – 22. The Viking defense held the Hawks on 4 downs and the Vikings ended the game with a VICTORY!

Powers, Alexander, Kaleb Alderete, David Rague, Ernesto Hernandez & Blaze Seely made plays. The 1st Qtr. ended…Vikings – 0 & Wall – 0.
The 2nd qtr. was much of the same until Noah Hernandez picked-off a pass from Wall to give the Vikings life before the half. However, they didn’t take advantage and turned-the-ball over on downs. The Hawks moved the ball down field but were stopped before the end of the 1st half. Vikings – 0 & Wall – 0.
To begin the 3rd qtr. after the Vikings received the kickoff, Josh Alexander threw to Noah Yetley for a 22 yd. gain. Then again to Seely for 8yds followed by another to Yetley for 4 yds. Then Alexander followed Powers up the middle for 12yds. The Vikings are on the move and inside the red zone on the Wall 18 yd. line. Alexander makes another throw to Seely for 6yds. and then Alexander runs for 3 yds. Layne Powers then gets the toss from Alexander for 5yds. Alexander runs the right end down to the Wall 1yd. line but a holding call brings the ball back & the Hawks intercept Alexander’s pass to Seely at the goal line. The Hawks next few plays had Cade Oliver & Adrian Hernandez making some good tackles. Hernandez also had a pass break-up. End of 3rd Qtr., Vikings – 0 & Wall – 0.

Offensively, Rory Maxwell, Cash Jennings, Dylan Amstutz, Ernesto Hernandez, Anthony Langereis, Preston Morgan & Noah Hernandez all had good blocks for those carrying and receiving the ball. After the Vikings kickoff, the Hawks drive and score with 48 secs. left in the 4th quarter. The Hawks go for the 2pt. to tie the game but the QB is dropped just short of the goalline by Josh Alexander, Layne Powers, Preston Morrison & Blaze Seely. Vikngs – 8 & Wall – 6. The Hawks onside kick but the Vikings recovered and 3 plays later it’s a Vikings WIN! Lago Vista Vikings – 8 & Wall Hawks – 6.

Volleyball:

Great serving from both teams gave us tons of momentum and led us to victory. We travel to Florence on Monday to take on the Buffaloes. Come cheer us on!

I am born and bred a Houstonian, but my heart has been in the Hill Country since I was little. After completing school at the University of Houston this past May, my husband and I and our two boys moved to Lago Vista. We have a fifth grader at LVIS and a Kindergartner at LVES. Lago Vista has exceeded our expectations. We are particularly enjoying the incredible scenery, especially when compared to Houston’s concrete, chemical plants, ships, smog, 24/7 traffic and extreme hustle and bustle. The only thing we miss is the family we left behind (and there are a lot of them!).
From UH I received a bachelor’s degree and certification in Curriculum and Instruction for 4-8 Science, but I am interested in all areas of Education and all are equally important. Coming from a family of educators, I have a passion for learning and I soak things up like a sponge. If people had borders, I would say mine never stop expanding. In my spare time you can find me reading, daydreaming, hanging out with my husband and kiddos, drumming up an adventure, or pondering the secrets of the universe. ;-)
