Dear SHS Parents and Guardians,
Today, the Sacred Heart School Faculty attended a Diocesan Professional Development Day to learn about the new K-8 report cards. These updated report cards, which will be implemented this year, represent a significant improvement over the previous version used since 2002.
A Diocesan committee of principals, vice-principals, and the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction worked diligently over the past two years to develop these new report cards. The committee's goal was to create a clearer and more comprehensive assessment of students' abilities, growth, and progress.
As a result of this collaborative effort, we are now using three distinct report cards: a kindergarten assessment, a report card for grades 1-4, and a report card for grades 5-8. These new formats provide a more detailed and informative overview of your child's academic performance.
While report cards are valuable tools, it's important to remember that they are just one piece of the puzzle. To gain a comprehensive understanding of your child's progress, we encourage you to regularly communicate with their teachers, review their classroom work, and attend parent-teacher conferences. This along with their report card will provide a holistic view of your child's academic performance and overall development.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Back to School Night is this Thursday, September 19th, at 6:30 p.m. We will begin in the auditorium for a presentation before being dismissed to the classrooms to meet your child’s teacher. Teachers will give a brief overview and expectations for the class. The night is set aside for you to meet the teachers, get a feel for your child’s day to day, and have your general questions answered. Individual conferences will be held on November 7th and 8th.
CAR LINE INFORMATION
Let's begin by making sure everyone arrives to school safely.
CAR LINE TIPS ON ARRIVAL
Drop-off begins at 7:30am. Please form 2 lanes. The right lane is for grades K-8, the left lane is for our Pre-K students. Families with students in both PreK and K-8 should stay in the right lane.
When arriving you will be greeted by Father John and myself. Please wait your turn in the car lanes. Once in the drop off area, have your child exit the car. K-8 students will be dropped off in front of the main gym doors. Pre-K will circle around and be dropped off in front of the church. Pre-K Parents please make sure to pull up to the Student Drop Off Ends Here sign so other cars can move in behind you. Our staff on duty will assist in making sure your children arrive safely to their classrooms.
Once you have dropped off your child/children please do not cut out of lane instead wait until the car in front of you moves to exit the campus. When exiting please be mindful that cars may turn in front of you to drop off at preschool or to exit the campus.
CAR LINE TIPS FOR PICK-UP
Form 2 lanes. In the interest of safety for your child/children and others:
Children will not be permitted to enter a car until the car is in front of the auditorium. Please remain in your car, have your family name placard visible, and pull all the way up to the "Drop off ends here" sign even if your child is standing in another place. If one of the car lanes is moving, children must wait until the cars stop moving before going to their car. If you must exit your car to buckle seat belts, we ask that you use the lane closest to the auditorium. Please pick up your child as quickly as possible, being mindful of the extremely long line behind you. We are discouraged from blocking Clifton Avenue.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 through October 15. During this month we will highlight the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. This will be done via our morning announcements and in our classrooms through various lessons and conversations. Our librarian, Mrs. Asch will be highlighting books about Hispanic cultures as well as books written by Hispanic authors. This year, we will be holding a Hispanic Heritage poster making contest. Students grades 3- 8 are welcome to participate by highlighting someone of notable Hispanic heritage. Guidelines, entry forms, and poster boards will be available in the art room. The contest ends on Friday, October 4th. Prizes will be given for the top 3 places.
FITNESS FRIDAY
Mark your calendar! Friday, September 27th will be our first Fitness Friday of the year. During the months of September, October, November, March, April, and May, Fitness Fridays gives participating students the opportunity to walk one mile to school. Classes compete to have the most student participation. The class with the most students who walk to school wins the "Golden Sneaker" trophy. The trophy is displayed in their class until the next " Fitness Friday" when a new winner is selected.
Participating students in grades K-8 should meet at 7:25 a.m. at the Fairgrounds Plaza in Mount Holly near the Santander Bank. We will begin our walk down High Street at 7:30 a.m. Parents are invited to join us. If your child should miss the start of our walk, please do not drop them off on High Street, instead, follow the regular morning drop off procedures.
