Te Karere o te Tumuaki/Principal's Message
Kia ora e te Whānau,
We are rolling to the end of the year and there is a lot going on, so it's really important to keep up to date with all of the information coming to you. Not only are staff writing reports and preparing for whānau hui, we are also thinking about what next year is going to shape up like. It's a very busy time, tamariki are still having lots of fun, the pool is alive and being enjoyed daily.
Your tamariki might be feeling a little unsettled as they start thinking about the changes ahead, whether it be a new school, new class, new teacher. Lots of love and reassurance is the key. Reach out if you need any support with that.
The highlight of next week is our colour run on Tuesday. We are all very excited about this event. Sponsorship has been amazing and we thank you all for your work with this.
Have a great weekend!

Tumuaki Whakahihi / Proud Principal time
Over the past several weeks Danny, Grace and I have had the pleasure of having morning tea with the following fabulous students:
Braxton Walker - Rm 3, Willow Meehan - Rm 5, Montrell Alesana and Abigail Kehoe - Reorua, Kaia Tito - Rm 22, Hazel Prouting - Rm 9, Jack Ferris and Tristan Openshaw - Rm 16, Jessica McArthur - Rm 6, Ocean Neilly O'Reilly - Rm 7, Ariana Wind and Lucas Ginders - Rm 13
These tamariki make our school a great place to be through their manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and manawa reka.
Reorua on Camp
On the 18th - 20th of November our lucky Reorua students enjoyed heading off to a fun-filled camp based for two days at Lonsdale Park, with a stop in at Sandy Bay for a day of surf lessons on the way back.
Phoebe O Gorman and James Lester share some of their highlights below:
* I was very nervous before we left, but lot of the nervousness disappeared though, when I got on the bus with my friends and cousins (Phoebe)
* The surfing was really cool. It was only my second time ever (James).
* It (the surfing) helped me with my step-by step plan to get a surfboard for Xmas! I stood up almost every time, I am so proud. (Phoebe)
* I kinda miss camp already! (Phoebe)
* I really liked commentating the races at the obstacle course - (Phoebe)
* One of my favourite parts was the blindfold course - (James)
* The Whanaungatanga challenges were quite cool (James)
* I both liked and hated the flying fox, it was so high! But so fun too - (Phoebe)
Ākonga/Students Corner
It has been a little while since we have shared some of the amazing learning our students have done with you all.
Room 22 has done some incredible artwork. We used Guy Fawkes as our inspiration and had a fun discussion about onomatopoeia and words that describe sounds. The kids did such an awesome job that we just had to share! - Whaea B
Here’s what some of the kids said about their creations:
- "I liked painting the fireworks with lots of colours."
- "The glitter makes it look sparkly, just like a firework."
- "I like that they are all different because of the colours."
- "They really look like fireworks!"

Keeping our students safe when arriving and departing school
Senior leadership and the Board are currently working with the council to establish a safe travel plan. More information will come out in due course.
2nd hand Uniform
As fast as they come, they go! We are still a bit light on most of our secondhand uniform supplies. Especially in any larger sizes. As soon as it comes in, it tends to quickly find a new home. If your child has outgrown their uniform and you have no further need of it, please feel free to drop it in to the school office. The sales of these help the school purchase additional items that our former PTA used to supply, such as sunscreen, etc.
Honey
We still have a great stock of honey available for purchase at the school office. Honey has been kindly donated by our partner beekeepers - Tahi honey, and we have further been gifted larger sized jars of Honeyeater honey - also from local Pataua hives. The honey is priced amazingly from $5 per jar to $20 (the big 1 kg jars) so why not pop in and pick some up. Might make some lovely Christmas gifts for whanau.

Spring is here! Just a reminder to you all that in terms 1 and 4, it is compulsory for our students to wear a hat when outdoors. If they do not come with a hat during this term, they will be unable to play outdoors in play break. This is in keeping with our sun safe policy. Also, now with the pool open, a reminder to all to check which day your tamariki has pool time scheduled and please remember to pack named togs and towel and (optional) goggles for these days.

There are two eating breaks within the day, taken at times that suit each class. Please ask your child's teacher when their times are. We would like to remind all whānau that during school hours, your child is expected to be present and learning. Where possible, we ask that appointments be scheduled outside of school hours, so as not to impact on your child's learning. We also ask that every effort is made to arrive at school in time for learning at 9am.
IMPORTANT NOTICES/TINO PANUI NUI
Medication: If your child requires medication to be brought or kept at school, please be aware that due to health and safety concerns, this must be kept secure in the school sick bay. It is not to be kept in children’s schoolbags during the day. This is to protect the safety of not only the child requiring the medication but also all other students. All medication requires an accompanying permission/approval form signed by their parent or caregiver. This includes epi-pens for allergy management, inhalers for asthma or any other medication your child requires on a short-term or as needed basis.
