St Joseph's Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 8.11.24
This week...
We have enjoyed an incredibly busy and exciting first week back here at St Joseph's!
As I type, we're getting ready to take our St Bernadette's Class over to the swimming pool to cheer on the final leg of the BBC Charity Thousand Mile Swim for Children in Need! Be sure to look out for us on BBC Look North and BBC Radio York this afternoon!
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Feel free to follow our social media accounts. Our Twitter has the most photos/videos, but we also have a more limited Facebook account too, designed for those who don't use Twitter!
Virtue
Our virtue this week is: Prayer
We explored how we can talk to God whenever we like. This can really help us if we are facing a tricky situation. It's great to remember that (as seen in the Bible story of David and Goliath), 'I may be small, but I can pray!"
Anti-bullying Week
This week, we've had our whole school Anti-bullying Week! We shared lots of lovely activities in our classes, where we explored what bullying is, what it might look like, how we can keep ourselves safe and what to do if we feel we have spotted bullying in our school.
We've been impressed with our children's mature and compassion attitude throughout this week!
Open the Book
Thank you so much to the Open The Book team, who delivered a wonderful whole school worship on Wednesday morning. They used drama to retell the Bible story of Joseph as a prisoner! Our children were thoroughly engaged!
Glow Disco
On the final Thursday before the half term holiday, we were treated to two fabulous glow discos, hosted by our Friends of St Joseph's! We are incredibly grateful for all the time and effort that is spent organising such wonderful events, and it was heart-warming to see our children enjoying such wholesome fun!
Good news!
We are delighted to announce that Miss Gill is looking forward to welcoming another little baby into their family!
She is due next Spring. We will keep you updated in regards to staffing plans as the time approaches. I'm sure you will join us in offering congratulations and praying for Miss Gill and her family at this exciting time.
Tad10 Fundraising Run
On Sunday 17th November, Mrs Ronicle and Laura Cooper are running the Tad10!
It's a 10 mile route, that passes our lovely school.
Cake and refreshments will be served outside school, and we hope you will come to cheer us on!
Any donations, however small, will be gratefully received. Funds raised will be split between our Friends of St Joseph's and St Leonard's Hospice.
The hospice holds a special place for us, as two of our families lost their dads last year, and the hospice provided such love and care in a difficult time.
Please have a look at our fundraising page and feel free to make a little donation if you are able.
More importantly, PLEASE come to cheer us on outside school during the run - we'll likely be in need of your support and smiley faces!

Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 96.67%
This week, our attendance is above National Average.
Thank you to our families!
As you know, we love having our children in school and really hope you can support us in getting them to attend as often as possible.
Wake Up Wednesday
Have a look at this week's information about Respect (which ties in with our Anti-bullying week) :
This week, we have been learning...
St Francis Class (Preschool / Reception)
This week our youngest learners have been looking at the well-loved story Owl Babies. We have learned lots of facts about owls and drawn and written about our own story settings. In Maths we have been talking about shapes and went on a shape hunt around the classroom to find shapes in the environment. We have also been sharing our experiences of Bonfire Night, making colourful artwork and edible sparklers! What a lot of fun!
St Bernadette Class (Year 1/2)
In RE, our Year 1/2 children were exploring the story of when the Angel Gabriel came to give the happy news to Mary - she will give birth to a beautiful baby boy, and will name Him Jesus! The children created beautiful chalk artwork, depicting Angel Gabriel and annotated what he might be saying to Mary!
St Patrick Class (Year 3/4)
In Science this week we began our new topic on rocks. We discussed how igneous rocks were formed from molten magma or lava that had cooled down and hardened. We saw an exploding volcano in our classroom to help us see how this would happen and watched the liquid harden! We then got to feel different and hold different types of igneous rock.
St Therese Class (Year 5/6)
Our Year 5/6 children in St Therese were very excited to complete fun learning challenges to help them with fractions this week. We love seeing such excitement about Maths learning!

Friends of St Joseph's
The week before half term FoStJ hosted another fabulous disco. We certainly all got our glow on for a fun evening of dancing and games. Thanks to all who supported and helped out with this.
This half term is super busy with lots of events...
On Friday 15th November, we will be having our first "Break the Rules Day". In exchange for having some fun with breaking any (or all) of the four given rules, we are asking for donations of chocolate or bottles for our upcoming Christmas fayre. Please see the poster attached to the newsletter for more details.
All children in school have completed a Christmas card design. These will be sent off next week to an external company and you will then have the opportunity to order cards and other festive products. We will keep you updated of order deadlines.
Don't forget to come along and support our runners (Mrs R and Mrs Cooper!) during their charity Tad10 run on Sunday 17th November! We will have a refreshments and cake stall outside school.
Plans for our Christmas fayre on Sunday 1st December are well underway! We are hoping this will be a fabulous opportunity to welcome our school family as well as the wider visitors to the Tadcaster Christmas market to our lovely little school. This is our biggest event of the year so any support and extra pairs of hands are appreciated. Please do get in touch if you have any hours to spare.
