Deep Winter
January seems to be going by in a slow and leisurely way, and this week it has decided to bring with it the deep cold. This is the type of cold that requires us to take extra precautions to make sure our littlest community members stay safe and warm, while also accessing the outdoors, play, exploration and movement. We will do everything we can to get students outside this week, and there are also limits we have to operate within. Please know we'll try our best!
We are wrapping up iReady testing and moving into our next cycles of learning. Students have been digging into the new BookWorms pilot in K-4, exploring writing and research, what makes a sentence, and the parts of a story. Our middle school students have been studying flight in SHTEAM (Science, History, Tech, Engineering, Art and Math), nearly taking me out in the hallway as they test new designs of their airplanes. We have also welcomed Lydia Ham to BTS to teach music, where students are learning about Nina Simone, Muddy Waters, instruments and music theory. Thank you, Lydia, for coming to us and bringing new learning to our students!
In very exciting news, our very own Chunky Capybaras went to states this past weekend and finished 9th overall! This team worked with tenacity, grit and determination to make it to states and showed such joy in their work. Congrats to the team and Ms. Hubacz and the parents for this awesome accomplishment! It was truly a team win :)
Finally, on February 11th we will have a BTS Talent Show. This is being spearheaded by some of our middle school students, and supported by staff. All students are welcome to participate, and families are welcome to attend. More details will be shared soon!
