Dear Trailblazer Families,

We’ve had another successful week with our Eagles! Our students are soaring high, and I’m proud of the positive energy and hard work happening throughout our school. This week, we began administering the VALLSS assessment (formerly known as PALs), a critical reading screening tool that helps us better understand each student's reading abilities.

I hope you enjoy the upcoming three-day weekend, and I’m looking forward to our first school-wide morning meeting next Friday! Immediately following the morning meeting at 8:35 am, we’ll have our first PTO meeting of the year. You'll get to meet this year's PTO leadership and hear from Ms. Beverly and Ms. Coleman. We’ll be discussing fundraising, the Walk-a-Thon, and other important updates you won't want to miss.

We will be showcasing students and their talents on the morning announcements! This can range from musical talents, a drawing they’re proud of, a sport they play, or even building a Lego set. If your child would like to participate, please submit a 30-second to 1-minute video to Ms. Beverly at beverlc1@charlottesvilleschools.org. We’re excited to highlight our students' amazing skills on the morning announcements!

Want to learn more about and support Gifted Education in Charlottesville City Schools? We are looking for two parents/guardians to serve as representatives for Trailblazer Elementary School. The Gifted Advisory Committee meets four times annually. This year, the meetings will be at 5:30 pm on the following Mondays: October 7, December 2, March 3, and May 5. This committee advises in the development and implementation of the gifted education program.

The events of the night will include, a brief welcome and presentation from Ms. Beverly and Ms. Coleman, student led tours of your child's classrooms, and dinner outside on the blacktop.

Collect Clothes: Start gathering clean, gently-worn children's clothing (sizes 4-11) for donation.

Drop Off Donations: Bins will be available outside the gymnasium starting August 5th for clothing drop-offs.

Swag Swap Event: The swap will take place in the gymnasium on Thursday, September 12th, between 6:00 and 7:00 pm as part of our Back-to-School Night event.
