CMS OLYMPIC TORCH RUN
CMS TORCH RUN IS MAY 24, 2024!
Concord Magnet K-8 will be holding an Olympic Torch Run on Friday, May 24, 2024. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the original CMS Torch Run held in 1984! Teams of CMS students in grades 4-8 will run a 26-mile course through Norwalk, specifically designed to pass by all of Norwalk Public Schools. While our 4-8 graders complete the run, CMS K-3 students will take turns running in pairs around our school field. As an added bonus, this year we have invited former CMS students to run an honorary first lap on the school field with former CMS gym teacher and CMS Torch Run creator Tom Kretsch. Please share this with any former CMS families that you know. They can contact Terry Lakin lakint@norwalkps.org with questions.
Thank you, CMS PTA for not only supplying our runners with t-shirts and shorts, but t-shirts for all CMS students and staff as well!!!
SPECIAL NOTES:
- Digital Permission Slips were sent to all CMS 4th through 8th grade families via ParentSquare earlier this week. Students will only be able to participate in the Torch Run if they submit a permission slip.
- NOTES FOR DRIVERS:
- In order to drive runners, parents/guardians must have insurance information and driver's licenses on file in our school office and be able to transport 3 students in seat belts.
- Grades 7 & 8 will not need car transportation.

LIFEGUARDS NEEDED!
The City of Norwalk has changed it's policy regarding school beach trips. The schools are now responsible for hiring lifeguards while the students are at the beach. This rule applies even if the students remain on the sand. We are prepared to call our local YMCAs, but before we do, we thought we would reach out to the CMS community. If you have any recommendations, please contact Terry Lakin at lakint@norwalkps.org. Our beach trips are scheduled in early June.

CMS Parent Groups on Facebook
Our two parent groups on Facebook, "CMS Parents Group" and "CMS - en Espanol Group," are private groups open only to members of the CMS community (parents and staff). We ask you to answer a few questions before being approved for membership to ensure our sites remain private. This way we can comfortably live stream All School Meetings and share photos of school/class activities, field trips and PTA events. We welcome your participation, but please remember to fill out the membership questions. Thank you.
"Concord Magnet School K-8" is our public page.
"CMS Parents Group" is a closed group open only to CMS parents and staff.
