Principal's Monthly Message
Hello Eagle Families,
What an AMAZING start to the 2024-2025 school year! It has been truly delightful to see so many smiling faces as students and staff reconnect, make new friends, and thrive together in our Eagle community.
As we step into September, we have the chance to settle into the routines that were introduced last month. These routines are carefully designed to help each student soar and reach their full potential! With that in mind, I encourage you to take a look at the key information below, all focused on building SUCCESS ROUTINES:
- Attendance: (To SOAR, Be Here More!)
- Behavior Expectations: (PBIS)
- Safety: (Ensuring everyone gets to and from school safely)
- Academic Success: (Reading daily; using i-Ready and Footsteps to Brilliance)
Let’s continue to work together to make this an exceptional year for our students. I look forward to seeing you around at one of the many community events happening this month!
SOARing with Eagle Pride,
~Mrs. Marich
September is Attendance Awareness Month
To SOAR, Be Here More!!
We all understand that school is important, and missing school or being absent isn't ideal. However, it's more than just important— DAILY, ON-TIME ATTENDANCE must be a TOP PRIORITY! Did you know...
Missing just one day a month adds up to 10 days over a school year, which equals 80 days throughout elementary school. That’s nearly half a school year of missed learning—just from taking one day off each month!
Now, consider the impact of being late to school. Besides disrupting the teacher, disturbing classmates, and causing anxiety for the student, even being 5 minutes late each day can have a significant impact.
Being late by just 5 minutes a day means missing 25 minutes of instruction each week, or 100 minutes each month. Over the course of a school year, this totals to a staggering 1,000 minutes of lost instruction—equivalent to almost 17 hours or 2 ½ school days!
These small delays add up quickly! Check out the tips below to ensure your child is at school, on time, every day. By establishing consistent routines, you invest in your child's success—and it will pay off!
STAY TUNED for our SEPTEMBER ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE!!!
ROUTINES FOR SUCCESSFUL ATTENDANCE
- Prepare the Night Before: Have clothes picked out, the backpack packed, and the water bottle filled to save time in the morning.
- Prioritize a Good Night’s Sleep: Elementary-aged children need 9-12 hours of sleep each night to be well-rested and ready to learn.
- Establish a Consistent Bedtime Routine: Activities like a bath or shower, brushing teeth, reading, and lights out at a set time ensure your child gets the rest they need.
- Wake Up with Plenty of Time: Make sure to wake up early enough for a calm morning routine and to leave the house on time.
- Plan Drop-Offs Strategically: If you have older children, drop them off first at the junior high or high school to streamline your morning routine.
- Take Advantage of School Breakfast: Breakfast at school starts at 7:15. Arriving early for breakfast helps ensure you’re never late!
- Leave Early to Beat Traffic: Aim to leave earlier to avoid the increased traffic closer to 8:00. A few extra minutes can make a big difference!
Success Routines
PBIS
Our EAGLES have been practicing their SOAR expectations, especially in the hallways and in the MPR for lunch. We are making great progress! Here is what we are focusing on:
- Walking Feet
- Level Zero Voice
- Eyes Forward
- Hands to Self
Last but definitely not least, safety is paramount; safety of oneself and safety of others. We work on a daily basis to ensure that each student has safe behavior, uses safe words, and uses equipment and supplies safely. Your help in reiterating these same expectations with your child is greatly appreciated.
Pedestrian Safety
For everyone's safety: If you park and get out to meet your student(s), please use the crosswalk to reach the sidewalk or grass area, and use the crosswalk again when returning to your car. Additionally, please do not call your student(s) to cross from the curb into the second lane to enter your car—this is not safe. By following these guidelines, we can all help teach our children valuable lessons about safety around vehicles. Drop-off and pick-up have been going smoothly, and we appreciate your cooperation in keeping everyone safe!
Read Daily!
There are so many great ways to foster a love of reading and books! AND the power of reading daily is immense! Read TO your child; Read WITH your child; LISTEN to your child read; Read picture books; Read chapter books; Read magazines; Read comic books; Read anything and everything your child enjoys reading. Just READ, READ, READ!!!
Footsteps 2 Brilliance (preschool-3rd grade)
