Pneumonia student health notice
We have had over 15 students in SMG classes throughout the school diagnosed and treated for pneumonia. If your student has worrisome pneumonia symptoms, we strongly recommend taking your student to your health care provider.
Pneumonia is an inflammatory condition of the lungs that causes the lungs to fill with fluid. Pneumonia may be caused by a virus or bacteria. Symptoms may include a cough, fever and fatigue. If symptoms are prolonged and/or progress to shortness of breath, working hard to breath, chest pain, loss of taste and/or smell, blue tinged lips, unable to sleep due to coughing through the night, please seek medical attention.
Vision Screens
Thursday morning, Oct. 10 we will have vision screens through the Lions Club for 1st, 3rd, 5th 8th grade and transfer students. If you suspect your student is struggling with close or far vision and they are NOT in 1 of these classes, please email the nurses and we will add your student to our testing list. Head Lice Notice
Head Lice has been reported in the school.
Pediculosis or head lice are tiny, wingless bugs about the size of a sesame seed or smaller. They live only on human scalps. While annoying, head lice do not spread disease and are not a health issue. Children, particularly those of elementary school age, are most likely to get head lice because of their close contact with each other. The main symptom is itching of the head. Lice can easily spread within families. If 1 family member has lice, please check all other family members.
If you suspect your child may have head lice, please examine your child’s scalp. Treatment consists of using a 1 step lice medication which kills both the lice and nits and is available by prescription only (call your doctor for Natroba/ generic Spinosad) or using an over the counter treatment and a 3 step process which requires meticulously combing out the nits each day. Follow the steps as needed. Please teach your children it is best not to share hats and grooming items (combs, hairbrushes, etc ) and to avoid direct head to head contact.
For further information as needed, please contact your health care provider or call the nurse office.
