The Call
Sept 2-6, 2024
Dear Colin Powell Academy Family,
As we wrap up our first week of school, I would like to extend a warm welcome to both our new and returning students and families. This year has brought an exciting increase in enrollment following the opening of Synergy on July 29, and it’s truly wonderful to see our community expanding, especially with many new students joining us due to boundary changes.
At this moment, we still have some students who have transferred from Apple Grove Elementary, Accokeek Academy, Barnaby Manor Elementary, Fort Washington Forest Elementary, Gwynn Park Middle, James Ryder Randall Elementary, Oxon Hill Middle, Oxon Hill Elementary , and Potomac Landing Elementary(CPA 6th SY24), that need to update their residency information. If your child falls into this category, we would greatly appreciate it if you could complete the necessary documentation at your earliest convenience to help ensure a smooth school experience for them.
Our dedicated staff has been diligently working over the past few weeks to enroll new students and carefully review transfer documents. This process is required by the district and is essential for ensuring that every child enjoys a seamless transition and is well-prepared for success.
We recognize the importance of timely enrollment for your children and are pleased to report that our enrollment queue in Synergy is progressing nicely. We anticipate that all students will be fully enrolled by Thursday, September 5.
I would also like to extend a special thank you to the PGCPS Central Office team and the generous parents who have provided delightful sweet treats and edible arrangements for our office staff. Your kindness has made a significant difference during this busy period.
Additionally, I sincerely apologize for any missed calls you may have experienced recently. We are actively working to enhance our phone coverage, and added CPA staff to assist with all calls. Furthermore, we are currently seeking a Secretary 1 to join our office team. If this interests you or if you know someone who may be, please don’t hesitate to reach out to bernita.turner@pgcps.org.
I genuinely appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate the challenges of being one of the largest schools in the district. Your support means so much to us as we work to ensure that every student is settled and ready for a fantastic school year ahead!
Thank you for being an important part of the Colin Powell Academy family.
Warmest regards,
Sincerely,
Ms. Lattimore,
Principal

PGCPS Transportation
If you have questions about your child’s bus service, bus stop or walking route safety, please submit through our online Transportation Resolution System (TRS).
Our early dismissal cut off is 1:30pm. Parents, please note that continuous early dismissal pick-ups may result in your child missing daily instruction.

CPA Car Riders & Walkers
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We understand that our car rider dismissal line can be lengthy. To help expedite the process, we kindly ask that all families display their car number tag clearly. Your child will be escorted to your vehicle promptly. Please note that parking along Fort Washington Road and showing your tag at the front door is not permitted.
To ensure our dismissal process runs smoothly, we need your consistent support.
For the week of September 2-6, 2024
- Car riders will be dismissed at 2:45 PM.
- Walkers will be dismissed at 2:55 PM.
Parents of walkers, please meet your child at the steps alongside Fort Washington Road. If a parent is not present for PreK-2 students, we will escort your child back to the main office.
We also ask that you do not call your child and instruct them to walk off school grounds to meet you. This is a significant safety concern and disrupts our dismissal procedures.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
