Mission
We will transform the learning experience within our inclusive community.
A Message from the Principal
Hello Hobby and Hobby Magnet Family,
I hope this message finds you well and that your child has had a positive and engaging first week back at school. It has been wonderful to see our students reconnect, dive into their studies, and begin the new school year with enthusiasm and energy.
As we look ahead to the coming weeks, I’d like to share some important information to keep you informed and help your child succeed.
Chromebooks for Educational Use
At Northside Independent School District (NISD), we are dedicated to providing every student with the tools they need to thrive academically. To support this commitment, each middle school student will receive a Chromebook for educational use only. These devices are essential for accessing online learning resources, completing assignments, and collaborating with teachers and classmates.
To ensure a safe and productive digital environment, we monitor student use through a system called "Bark." This monitoring helps us maintain appropriate use of technology and supports our students' well-being.
Upcoming MAP Growth Assessments
We will be administering MAP Growth assessments on August 28 and September 4. These standardized tests are designed to measure students' progress in key areas such as reading, mathematics, and language usage. The insights gained from these assessments help us tailor our instruction to better meet each student's needs.
How You Can Help:
Encourage a Positive Attitude: Remind your child that these assessments are an opportunity to show what they’ve learned and to help teachers support their learning journey.
Promote Good Study Habits: Encourage regular reading and practice in math to help build confidence and readiness.
Ensure Rest and Nutrition: A good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast on testing days can make a significant difference in performance.
We understand that assessments can be a source of stress for some students. Please reassure your child that we are here to support them and that doing their best is what truly matters.
Looking Ahead
As we continue through the school year, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. Open communication between home and school is vital to our students' success, and we value your partnership.
Thank you for your continued support and for entrusting us with your child’s education. Together, we can create a positive and enriching experience for all our students.

From the Magnet School Director
It was a great first week at Hobby Health Science Magnet. It was wonderful welcoming our 7th grade leaders back to campus and they are already being great role models for our new 6th grade students. We have seen lots of smiles and the students are finally settling in and finding their way in the halls. Transportation always presents some challenges as we navigate bringing on more students and thankfully we have worked through most of the kinks. I want to thank all of our families for your continued support and patience as we deal with traffic and this
crazy heat wave !

Upcoming events
A Message from Mr. Dylla and Dr. Johnson
Cell Phone Policy - This year we will continue our Hobby Middle School version of the “Away for the Day” cell phone protocol which has been extremely effective. Classrooms are red zones which means phones and earbuds must remain out of sight for the entire class period. Students may place their phones in the backpacks on silent or place in the teacher assigned location. They are returned at the end of the class period. We need your help in reinforcing the cell phone policy.
Next week we will begin our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) PBIS student assemblies and address campus wide expectations.
Chromebooks with chargers are being distributed now. The 6th grade distribution began today. Next week the 7th and 8th grade will receive theirs. Students should bring their Chromebooks and charger each day fully charged.
Students will begin receiving their student ID cards next week. Please remind students who were at Hobby last year to bring their badges. If they want a new picture they will need to turn in their old badge. If the badges are lost, there is a $2.00 replacement cost.
From your Academic Dean - Ms. Christina Lora
- Save the date: All Hobby Hawks will be taking their beginning of year MAP screener on August 28.
- Different from STAAR, this valuable and adaptive test will measure progress for your student at various points throughout the year.

From your Hobby Library
Welcome Back!
We are currently doing orientations through ELAR classes where students will learn or review library rules and expectations and then be able to check out books. Please be sure to speak to your students about what kinds of books you and your family are okay with them reading. We want our students to be respectful of your wishes, but that responsibility is on them as this is different for each student and each family.
If you happen to find any NISD library books at home please have your student(s) return them to the library and I will send them to the correct school to get returned.
Notes From The Nurse
Welcome back to All!! I wanted to inform parents that it is my pleasure to serve in my capacity as Hobby School Nurse. Please have your Child’s Asthma Action Plan, Food Allergy Action Plan, Diabetes Action Plan or Medication orders updated and bring them to the clinic at your convenience.
- The school nurse does not diagnose illnesses but observes symptoms and informs the parent/guardian of her findings. If a child becomes ill or injured at school, they will receive first aid and the parent/guardian will be notified if necessary.
- UHS Immunization Clinic Bus will be at Hobby MS 09/26/2024 from 9 am - 12 pm. Immunization letters will be going out next week. An application for your child to be immunized by UHS Clinic Bus will be enclosed if desired. Please call 210-358-7020 and make your appointment. Parents/Guardians need not be present as long as the application is completed and signed giving UHS authorization to vaccinate your child. They will be called out from the classroom to get vaccinated at the time of their appointment and return to their classroom after vaccines are administered. For further questions or concerns please call 210-397-6254 School Nurse office or email Purificacion.Montes@nisd.net or email Clinic Assistant Amanda.Herrera@nisd.net.

If your child is interested in trying out for a sport, or is enrolled in 7th or 8th grade athletics, there is mandatory paperwork that must be completed before they can be eligible to participate.
An athlete cannot try out for a sport before completing ALL UIL paperwork found on the parent portal. (link below)
STUDENTS NEW TO ATHLETICS:
All incoming students who did not have a medical physical last year MUST complete a medical physical and give a copy to the head coach on campus. The physical form can be printed from the parent portal. The medical history form must be completed online. Print the completed medical history and the physical form and take both of those papers with you to the doctor when you get your physical.
