FIRST STUDENT ACTIVITY NIGHT ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH from 3:00-4:30 p.m.
We hope all students will join us for our first activity night on Thursday, September 28th from 3:00-4:30 p.m. in the cafeteria and auxiliary gym.
We will have a DJ, dancing, pizza, snacks, games, sports, crafts and other activities. Admission will be $5 and will include a slice of pizza. All other drinks and snacks will be available for an additional cost.
Ticket sales will take place the day of the activity night during your child's lunch hour and at the door. They will not need a physical ticket, but will instead be placed on a list.
We hope all of our Smart students will join us for our first activity night of the year!
STUDENT AND STAFF OF THE WEEK IS BACK!
Parents will receive a call home when their child has been selected as the Student of the Week! Students nominate the staff member of the week through a Google form that they have access to.
Please celebrate your child at home if they are the Student of the Week and also encourage them to nominate a staff member.
Thank you,
Nayal Maktari
WELCOME TO CHS
Hello everyone! My name is Jay Semifero and I will be the new Health teacher! I graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2016 with my bachelors degree in teaching Physical Education and Health.
I am entering my 8th year of teaching. The past 7 years I have taught Physical Education. I began my career at a small charter school in Detroit and the last 4 years I’ve been at a Montessori school in Livonia.
I grew up in the Ann Arbor area — Go Blue! My wife and I are big Michigan football fans. I also have a beautiful 2 year old baby girl who means the world to me.
I’m looking forward to teaching Health here and I’m very excited in teaching and helping our students in any way I can!
Jay Semifero

Welcome to the new school year! Don't forget our GAP program- you or your student may have already received a packet at Smart Start. This Goal Achievement Program, or GAP, provides students with the opportunity to work towards and meet objectives throughout their middle school years in four main areas: Citizenship, GPA, Reading Hours, and Community Service.
All students are enrolled in the program from the start of the school year, and will be rewarded for completing their milestones. Please click on the tab below for further information. If you have any queries on this subject, please do not hesitate to reach out to Andi Parel at AndiParel@gmail.com.
WALLED LAKE SCHOOLS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION STUDENT BRANCH
We are excited to announce we will be opening the Clifford Smart student credit union for deposits beginning on Wednesday, September 27th. This program is designed to help teach students how to develop effective savings habits. The student credit union will be open every other Wednesday during the lunch hour with a few exceptions for holidays and half days. The complete schedule is listed below. If you have opened an account for your student, they may bring a deposit to make at the credit union on these days, which will be set up near the cafeteria during the lunch hour.
If you would like your student to have an account but have not yet opened it, there will be applications available at the student credit union. Your child is welcome to stop by and pick up an application to bring home. A parent or guardian will have to be on the account with the student. You may return the completed application to the main office at the school or to the Walled Lake Schools Federal Credit Union main office at 3095 S. Commerce Rd. in Walled Lake.
If you have questions, you may reach out to Bryan Feldpausch at bfeldpausch@wlsefcu.com or you may visit the student branch webpage at https://www.wlsfcu.com/education/smart.

COVID District Policy Update
As you know, the Federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency has ended and all remaining state epidemic orders have been rescinded. This, however, does not change the recommendation to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, such as isolation and masks. The expectation is that staff, students, and family members will follow the recommended guidelines regarding COVID-19. With that said, at this time, for the 2023-24 school year, COVID-19 positive cases will no longer be monitored at the District level and timelines will not be provided. Please see below for next steps when a positive case is reported to you:
· Report absence and subsequent absences in Skyward as Ill-Excused.
· Report the number of positive cases to the Oakland County Health Division as part of the your building’s weekly aggregate counts via their online portal.
· Advise families to follow recommended guidance from their physician, the Centers for Disease Control, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and/or the Oakland County Health Division.
· COVID cases no longer need to be reported on the WLCSD COVID Report Form, nor do they need to be reported to the corresponding teacher(s)/class(es).
· Building office staff will not be required to track and monitor COVID isolation timelines, nor should they give COVID-19 guidance.
· COVID-19 questions or concerns should be directed to their physician or the Oakland County Nurse On Call Line at 800-848-5533.
· Questions regarding protocol within the District should be directed to Ms. Kelly Baier - Human Resources or Mrs. Tacoma Corbin - District Nurse.
