This semester promises to be filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and continued community connection. We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Mendez, our new VAPA performing arts teacher, who will be joining us in Room 501. His passion for the arts and dedication to student creativity will undoubtedly enrich our school.
As always, our dedicated staff is committed to providing a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment for all students. Let’s work together to make this semester a successful and fulfilling experience for everyone.

MLK Day of Service (No School)
As we approach this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we are reminded of Dr. King’s powerful vision of a Beloved Community—a society rooted in love, justice, and equality. This year marks 30 years of celebrating MLK Day as a National Day of Service, and it is an opportunity to honor Dr. King's legacy through acts of kindness, volunteerism, and community-building.
The MLK Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 20 is a call to action to come together and demonstrate how service, no matter how big or small, can unite us, build bridges, and bring healing to our communities. Whether through volunteering, organizing a donation drive, or performing a random act of kindness, every contribution makes a meaningful impact.
As educators, we have the unique privilege of inspiring our students to embrace these values and contribute to a more just and compassionate world. I encourage you to participate in this special day and to reflect on how we can continue to embody the principles of service and equity in our work.
Let’s come together to build Dr. King's Beloved Community and show the transformative power of service.

WALKING CLUB PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are looking for 8-10 volunteers to mark laps and encourage students to jog/run/walk in the morning before school. We are hoping to start right after Winter Break, hopefully the second week in January. If you are interested, please complete an information form in the front office and Coach Hilferty or Ms. Carter will contact you with details.🙂
The PTA is forming a Family Engagement / Events Committee, and we would love your ideas and (self-) nominations for a Committee Chairperson, Events Committee members, or even folks who will sign up to be general volunteers for the PTA. You can also email us at email us at FranklinSDPTA@gmail.com if you can help with any of these things, so we can spread the love that makes our school so awesome!
Membership Matters
Ok, well this is kind of embarrassing but we need your help. We really need you to become a member of the PTA this year. Having a strong membership allows us to keep bringing exciting and fun programs to the school, raise money and awareness about how parents can support their children in school, and be taken seriously when we speak to district, city, county and state agencies about the challenges facing our school. If the membership fee is a barrier, please complete our PTA Member Due Scholarship Form, and a generous corporate sponsor will cover your dues!
Despite all the amazing energy and excitement this year, we still have not reached our membership goal. Please help us now if only so we can take out this request from future newsletters.
We need all students, parents, teachers, and interested community members to join our PTA so we can advocate with a unified voice on the most important issues facing our students and families!
We'd love to hear from you! Connect with us on Facebook or Instagram, or email us at FranklinSDPTA@gmail.com to tell us what’s on your mind, how you want to get involved, or what you wish was *even better* about our school!
*Note: Family Wednesday is a chance for parents to tour their students’ classrooms and see the students actively learning from 8:20-8:50 am four times a year in September, October, January & March.
