NWEA Testing Window
Moraine, along with all Northville elementary schools, frequently monitors data to inform instruction. In addition to the daily formative assessments our teachers use to make in-the-moment decisions, we also administer the NWEA three times a year. It is important that students are in school (and rested!) for these dates. District-wide, we will not be making up NWEA testing that is missed because of vacation unless the data is deemed necessary for MTSS decisions. Our next NWEA window will be May 6-24th.
Good Inside - Book Club Opportunity!
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with all the parents out there! We’re launching another Book Club opportunity just for you. And guess what? This year, our Book Club is going district-wide, spanning all six elementary buildings!
Our elementary principals have been diving into an amazing book called “Good Inside” by Dr. Becky Kennedy (also known as “Dr. Becky” to her followers). In this book, Dr. Becky shares her parenting philosophy along with practical strategies. These strategies will help parents move away from uncertainty and self-blame, and toward confidence and effective leadership.
As parents, we’ve all tried various techniques that sometimes just don’t seem to work. From reward charts to time-outs, many popular parenting approaches focus on shaping behavior rather than nurturing the whole child. But kids need more than behavior modification—they need skills for life and understanding of their complex emotional needs. It’s no wonder that many caretakers feel overwhelmed and worried they might be falling short.
“Good Inside” offers a fresh perspective on parenting principles. It tackles specific scenarios like sibling rivalry, separation anxiety, and tantrums. This book is a comprehensive resource for parents who are seeking a new way to raise their kids—one that fosters self-regulation, confidence, and resilience for a lifetime.
Now, mark your calendars! Our Book Club meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 13, 2024, at 6:30 PM. We’ll gather in the Ridge Wood Elementary Library. Everyone who’s interested is welcome to join us for some lively conversation about this thought-provoking book. Whether you’ve read the whole book, part of it, or even just skimmed it, you’re invited!
And here’s a bonus: The first 15 sign-ups at each school will receive a free copy of the book. After that, feel free to purchase the book and join us for the conversation on May 13th! Let’s explore parenting together and discover the “good inside” each of us.
