May 3rd- Senior Dance

May 10th- Extended Lunch schedule for Senior Awards and Louie Barba Memorial Bench, a Gift from the Senior Class to AOC Ceremony at sunset, community invited at AOC

May 16th-Showcase, AOC Open House

May 20th-May 24th- AOC Final Exams and Final Culminating Activities and Projects, regular schedule

May 24th- Student Panels, minimum day schedule, students learn from grade level peers and school-wide Pizza Party supplied by ROOTS special schedule and early dismissal (at 12:20pm)

May 27th-No School, Memorial Day

May 28th-Senior Pancake Breakfast

May 29th- Senior Graduation Rehearsals in the PAC (11:00am), ASB hosts Senior Sunset and Cap Decorating (in the plaza, in front of AOC) and special Extended Lunch Schedule for all students

May 30th- Graduation at 6pm in the COC Performing Arts Center (PAC) and last day of school, last day of COC '24 Spring classes

May 31st-Teacher work day, no students

June 1st-August 11- Summer Break

August 12th- First day of the 2024-2025 school year. The 2024-2025 WSHUHSD Calendar is attached.

Dear AOC Families,

Staff Appreciation Week is this week, from May 6 to May 10. We want to show the teachers and staff at AOC how much we appreciate all they do for our students.

ROOTS is planning a list of activities to thank the staff throughout the week (see list below or click here. . Many of the meals/snacks have been donated. We are also planning a POTLUCK LUNCHEON for the staff on Thursday, May 9 at 11AM. In addition, we will present each of the 28 staff members with a gift card to thank them for all they have done for the students throughout the school year. The gift cards will be given to the staff on behalf of all the families at AOC. On this sign-up genius, you can sign up to contribute towards the staff gift cards, donate food, or even help to set up or clean up. We appreciate all you do for the AOC staff.

You're invited to join the Class of 2024 in presenting a cherished gift to the Academy of the Canyons. In memory of Louie Barba, the Senior Class will be placing a bench in front of the school as a heartfelt offering to AOC. Your presence would mean a great deal to us as we commemorate this gesture of generosity and honor the memory of Louie. Please join us for this special event on Friday, May 10th at 6pm, as the sun sets.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We want to let you know that next week, students in grade 10 will be given the option of completing an anonymous 15-minute, 35 question digital survey in their history class. This survey, the School Climate Survey, is meant to help the district gain insight on what is happening on campus from a student’s perspective. This is not a new survey. The annual survey is a required component of our state accountability system, the California Dashboard, and has been administered to students in the Hart District for many years. The survey was created with input from parents and staff. We will use the results of this local survey, which will be posted in next year’s Dashboard, for planning purposes both at the school site and the District.

The survey is attached for you to preview before your student is given the option of taking it next week.

For the rest of the school year, students and parents are invited to share any good news that they are proud of with the rest of the AOC community. Please share the good news with me, jfine@hartdistrict.org and I will share it with the entire community. Let's celebrate our students' accomplishments together.

Located on the campus of College of the Canyons, AOC is proud to be the middle college high school in the William S. Hart Union High School District serving students 9th-12th grades in the Santa Clarita Valley. Students have the opportunity to earn between 24 and 44 transferable college units, prior to receiving their high school diplomas. Upon graduation, the majority of Academy students pursue their post high school education by continuing at COC and completing their college transfer requirements in only one year after high school. Other AOC students go directly into a four-year university, bringing their community college units with them and placing themselves well into their freshman and sophomore years at the college level. While attending AOC as a high school student, community college tuition is waived for established California residents.
