Summer Newsletter - June 26
Wednesday, June 26
I hope my newsletter finds you enjoying your summer break. The weather has been extremely hot, and we were happy to open up our high school pool for our community to stay cool in light of the temporary closure of Krueger pool.
Our ongoing efforts to enhance the capital HVAC system at Beloit Memorial High School are scheduled to be completed by the end of August. This comprehensive upgrade encompasses cooling and heating systems, aiming to significantly improve overall efficiency and comfort for our students and staff. Additionally, in our commitment to safety, we have recently retrofitted the outdated lighting at Jacobsen Field with LED lights, ensuring optimal visibility for athletes and spectators alike. Furthermore, nearing completion is a crucial project to bring up to code the fire alarm system throughout the high school, reinforcing our dedication to maintaining a secure environment for all.
Summer School is underway, and more than 1,036 students registered to take advantage of our enrichment opportunities and extracurricular activities. Our goal is to ensure that students continue to learn and grow in an engaging and supportive environment this summer.
Summer events hosted by each of our schools have begun. I have heard from our families that they have enjoyed having fun with other families and our staff. To access our summer events calendar, click here.
We are looking ahead and planning for our 2nd annual Health Fair, which will be hosted at Beloit Memorial High School on Saturday, August 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In collaboration with our community partners, we will offer immunizations, vision screenings, dental assessments, haircuts, school supplies, and so much more. Look for more information in upcoming newsletters and on our district communication channels.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child(ren)’s education.
In service,
Dr. Willie E. Garrison II
School District of Beloit Superintendent

Prioritize Self-Care and Well-Being
Summer is here, and it's time to start planning your warm-weather activities! As you make your summer to-do list, prioritize self-care and well-being.
Embrace the outdoors. Spending time outside has numerous benefits, such as reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood, and boosting creativity. Consider activities like walking, hiking, biking, gardening, or relaxing in a shady park.
Make time for loved ones. It's easy to get caught up in our daily routines and miss out on quality time with friends and family. This summer, prioritize reconnecting with your loved ones through shared meals, game nights, movie nights, or simply picking up the phone for a catch-up call.
Prioritize sleep. During busy times, our sleep habits can suffer. Make an effort to establish a consistent sleep schedule and give your body the rest it deserves.
Most importantly, have fun and do something that brings you joy each day. Whether trying a new hobby, indulging in a favorite activity or simply taking time to relax and unwind, make sure to prioritize your happiness this summer.
If you or a family member are struggling with mental health or substance use issues, remember that help is available. Care Solace, a complimentary and confidential coordination service provided by the School District of Beloit, is available 24/7/365 throughout the summer to help you find mental health care or substance use treatment providers. Call 888-515-0595 for multilingual support or visit caresolace.com/beloit to search for providers on your own or receive assistance through video chat, email, or phone.
We wish you a happy and healthy summer break, and we'll see you again soon!

Free Meals for Kids this Summer in Beloit
Summer is quickly approaching, which means our summer food program is back. Our district collaborates with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide free meals to children in our community during the summer. No need to worry about income requirements—any child aged 18 and under is able to receive a free nutritious meal.
Please see the complete list of locations, dates, and times below.
Summer EBT Program
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services asked us to share the following information about Summer EBT: Summer EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) is an income-based program that helps families buy food for their children while school is out. Wisconsin will send $120 for each child who qualifies. You can use these benefits anywhere that FoodShare benefits are accepted, like most grocery stores, many convenience stores, and some farmer’s markets.
At the School District of Beloit, we enjoy sharing events, achievements, and recognitions highlighting our students, staff, and community partners. We provide transparent and up-to-date information and communication through our social media platforms, our SDB App, website, weekly school newsletters, and my newsletter. We appreciate the positive engagement by everyone who follows us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn and stays connected with us by downloading our SDB App or accessing our News Tab.
We believe in respectful, truthful, and encouraging messaging and communication. We will continue to communicate in that manner with our students, staff, families, and community.
