The rules for students on bikes are as follows:

• When on school property, they are to walk their bike to and from the school until off of school property. Bikes are not to ridden in the parking lot or on sidewalks.

• Students must also have helmets when riding bikes to school.

• Students must lock their bikes up so that they are safe.

I have explained the rules to our students and reiterated that they need to follow the rules for bikes to keep everyone safe. We also spoke about consequences of not following the rules that included someone accidentally hurting someone else, someone getting hurt themselves, or losing the privilege of riding their bike to school. Please help keep our students safe by discussing the rules with your children.

Being present in school and being on time is very important. When students are absent, they miss valuable instruction and when they are late, they start off their day out of sync which leads to feeling stressed. The state policy on attendance is very clear that any student who is absent over 10 percent of the school year is considered "chronically absent". Our district policy and regulation (on the district website policy / regulation section) follow along with state guidelines. Elementary school students who have over 16 absences can be considered for retention in their present grade and middle school / high school students can be denied credits. At SJG, we send home attendance letters when students hit 5 and 10 absences or tardies so that all parents are aware of their child's attendance. I can't stress enough how important attendance is. I ask parents to think of this the next time we are considering booking a vacation during school.

Mrs. Griffith, SJG School Nurse, will be keeping us up to date on ways to be more healthy all year.

Mrs. Griffith will be hosting Mindful Mondays with our classes to conduct mindfulness activities. Mindfulness activities are conducted to give our students strategies to help them with stress and when they feel overwhelmed.
