SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER: 9-1-24
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Principal's Message
Dear Boulder Creek Families,
The 2024-25 school year is off to a fantastic start, and I am thrilled to share that everything is going exceptionally well. Our students are impressively quick in learning procedures and diving back into school life. Our dedicated teachers and staff have already set a positive tone for a successful year. This year, we are committed to reinforcing that everyone on our campus—both students and adults—are leaders, and we will actively seek opportunities for all to lead positively.
Back-to-School Night was held early this year, and, as always, we had an incredible turnout from parents. Your involvement highlights how invested you are in your child's education. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend and gain insight into the exciting learning opportunities that await your children this year. Our teachers shared valuable information about what’s to come and offered ways for parents to support their children beyond the classroom. Additionally, there are many more ways for parents to get involved through the Boulder Creek Community.
One excellent way to engage with our school is by joining our Parent Club. The Boulder Creek Executive Board members work tirelessly to organize fantastic annual events and have some exciting new ideas for this school year. The BC Parent Club holds monthly meetings, with the first one scheduled for September 11th at 5:30 p.m. in the library. We welcome you to join us and discover all the ways you can be part of our vibrant community.
Welcome aboard, Boulder Creek Families. Go Bears!
Sincerely,
Tina Croes
7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE
SEPTEMBER: HABIT 1 - BE PROACTIVE
In our school, we believe that EVERY STUDENT is a leader in their own way, and it is our job to help your child thrive in that role. To hone our leadership skills, we are learning the "7 Habits" that make us effective in our lives. For the month of September, we invite you to join us in practicing Habit 1: Be Proactive. This habit teaches us that while we can't control everything around us, we always have the power to choose our response. By focusing on what we can control—like our attitudes, words, and actions—we can help our children (and ourselves!) learn to take responsibility for choices and build a positive, productive school experience.
ATTENDANCE
ATTENDANCE AWARENESS
One way to jumpstart a PROACTIVE year is establishing good rhythms for excellent attendance in 2024/2025. September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we're highlighting the importance of consistent attendance for ALL of our students - TK and up! Regular attendance helps build a strong foundation for learning, social development, and future success. Did you know: if your child is going to be absent, you can reach out to the school office to arrange Independent Study to earn credit for attendance while you are gone. By building a family focus on great attendance, you are telling your students that they can proactively create lifelong habits of responsibility and commitment.

Parent Club Participation Needed!
Help Your Child's Class WIN with Parent Club Meeting Attendance!
Boulder Creek's Parent Club meetings will be the second Wednesday of each month. The first one is coming up on September 11th at 5:30 p.m. in the library. This year there will be two incentives for parent attendance.
The class with the most parent attendance for the first three meetings September 11th, October 9th, November 13th, will earn a $50.00 amazon gift card for their child’s classroom! The second reward will be an ice-cream party at the end of April for the class with most parents in attendance throughout the year.
IMPORTANT NEWS!
HAVE YOU COMPLETED YOUR BEGINNING OF YEAR REQUIRED FORMS? START NOW!
All parents will need to complete the yearly required school forms. Most importantly, an updated 2024-25 emergency card needs to be on file for every child.
Please begin completing ALL electronic forms as well as additional paper forms, if necessary, within the first week of school if not sooner. Click HERE for complete instructions about completing Beginning-of-Year Forms. *Sometimes using the Parent Portal App presents people with problems when trying to complete forms or doesn't pull up all of the forms. You should have no problem if you sign onto the Parent Portal without using the app.
Boulder Creek is in competition with the rest of the EESD to be first to have all Beginning-of-the-Year Forms completed. Thank you in advance for helping us accomplish this goal!
JOIN THE BOULDER CREEK TEAM!
Are you, a family member, or a friend looking for an opportunity to be a part of an amazing team of people who fosters the academic, social, and emotional growth of Boulder Creek students every day? Do you plan on being on campus volunteering your time? Why not apply to work with children and get paid for it too? We have support staff (classified instructional and social emotional learning (behavior) aide openings for the coming 2024-2025 school year. In addition, we are always in the need of support staff and teacher substitutes all year. If you would like to apply for a position, click HERE. You can also contact our Deanna Barnes, School Secretary at dbarnes@eesd.net and she will share how to become a part of the team!
HELP OUR BUSES STAY ON TIME
Parents, Boulder Creek has buses that must get into our back parking lot and into the bus loop to pick up children each day. They are often late on their routes because they cannot make it to our bus loop to load children on time. Here is how you can help ...
Please do not arrive early, before the dismissal time of your oldest child. This will help to keep the parking lot from backing up with cars, and the buses will be able to drive in the back driveway and around the bus loop.
NO SHARING FOOD ITEMS AT SCHOOL
A "No Food Sharing" policy at school seems contradictory to everything we try to teach our children. However, this policy is necessary for the safety of all at Boulder Creek.
Cross-contact: A shared food item such as an apple, for example, may have been placed in a child's lunch by a person who touched other items such as peanut butter at home. The cross-contact with that apple could be life-threatening for another child who might have a peanut allergy.
New Allergies: In 25% of food allergy reactions that occur at school, the student had not been previously diagnosed. If a reaction does occur at school, tracing all food eaten, including its preparation may be of importance. This information is simply easier to gather when food is not shared.
Parents, please partner with us and discuss this policy with your children. We have many students who have food allergies, as well as those who may not know they have an allergy yet. In addition, some foods (spicy for example) that are tolerated well by some may not be tolerated by others.
Thank you!
SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL
The School Site Council (SSC) is responsible for the development of the School Plan and overall school site budget including any categorical funds. The SSC is expected to:
Help develop and approve the School Plan for Student Achievement and school site budget.
Review and analyze student data.
Solicit community input and develop a needs assessment.
Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the SPSA on an ongoing basis.
2024-2025 is a year of elections for some of our parent site council member seats. This month we will take nominations of parents who might like to participate in the school site council this school year. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else, click HERE to access the nomination form. Complete and submit the form by Friday, September 13th. Voting will take place the third week in September.
Our 2024-2025 School Site Council (SSC) will be determined by September 27th.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
DROP-OFF/PICK-UP TIMES AND PARKING LOT PROCEDURES
Where/when should I drop-off and pick-up?
Grade-Level Start and End Times
We are happy to welcome our students on campus for breakfast as well as on the playground before the start of the school day this year. The earliest drop-off time is 7:30 a.m.
Regular Day - School Start/End Times:
4-8 grades begin at 8:00 a.m. - 2:14 p.m.
K-3 grades begin at 8:15 a.m. - 2:03 p.m.
Minimum Day - School Start Times:
4-8 grades begin at 8:00 a.m. - 1:09 p.m.
K-3 grades begin at 8:10 a.m. - 1:09 p.m.
Students will be released from class based upon the dismissal time. Students will be walked to a designated pick-up area (see below) and remain with their teacher/classmates. If they have a younger sibling(s), they should report to the designated pick-up area of their youngest sibling so parents don't have to visit both pick-up loops. Please coordinate this with your children.
To ensure the safety of all children, students must be picked up at their dismissal times. The school does not provide supervision for students after 2:20 p.m. on regular days and 1:20 p.m. on minimum days. Every Monday is a minimum day. If students are not picked up by the aforementioned times, they will be escorted to the office. Parents will then be required to go to the office to check students out. Remember this is to ensure your child’s safety, so please be prompt when picking up your child.
Assigned Parking Lots for Drop-off and Pick-up
This year, you will be assigned to a specific parking lot for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. It is extremely important that you stick to this because your child/children will be taken to this area after school. If you have multiple BC children, we do not want you to have to go from parking lot to parking lot, so you will be picking all of your children up together in one location.
This location is decided by the youngest child in the family. Older children in the family will need to find their youngest sibling at the pick-up location that is assigned to that sibling's grade level. For example, Kindergarten will be picked up in the front parking lot, so all older siblings of Kindergartners will report to the dismissal location to find their Kindergarten sibling's class at the front of the school and wait for their parents there together. We will be out to help older siblings find their pick-up point. This should only take a day or two to get into the routine of where to go.
Parking Lot Assignments by Grade-Level:
- TK/K (and all older siblings) - Front Lot
1 and 2 (and all older siblings) - Back Lot
3 and 4 (and all older siblings) - Front Lot
5 (and all older siblings) - Back Lot
6-8 (and all older siblings) Front Lot
Please do not arrive earlier than your oldest child's release time (see above), as we want to be able to clear the parking lot quickly for each group. If you have multiple children who are released at both times, please find a parking space rather than waiting in the pick-up lane as this will block the lane from moving as you wait for your older child. Thank you for your cooperation.
BC FLOW OF TRAFFIC MAP
Enter/exit the campus from the neighborhood depending on which parking lot you are assigned. Front lot = red arrows. Back lot = green arrows.

PARENT PORTAL LOG-IN
All parents, including new parents, should have logged into the Parent Portal at some point already. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will view your child's teacher/class, receive your child’s report card, complete enrollment, and complete the necessary beginning-of-the-year school forms like your child's emergency card. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated.
Click HERE for the link to the parent portal. If you cannot log-in successfully, please call our school's office at 224-4140. Be sure to keep your log-in information in a safe but accessible place.
