Principals Message
Thank you to everyone who made Monday a great start for our Winter sports session. We have had some of the largest student turnouts for several of our CHS Winter Sports we have seen in several years. It was great to see many of our student-athletes finding their passion and purpose, which is part of our CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - Centennial Profile of a Profile of a Graduate. Remember all Student-Athletes, Parents, and Families involved or interested in CHS Winter Sports are invited to our CHS Winter Sports Parent Night on Monday, November 25th, from 7-8 PM in the CHS Auditorium.
Thank you to everyone who supported our students this week in many different experiences to prepare Every Student for Their Future (CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 Goal #5) - where each student will graduate with the skills necessary to thrive in a diverse and rapidly evolving world.
- It was impressive that 38 CHS students and two staff members participated in Tuesday’s Portland Trades Day at the Expo Center. They learned a lot about career and trade opportunities to help them find their passion and be future-ready.
Likewise, seeing our 18 CHS seniors who participated in the Beaver VIP event on Wednesday in the CHS College and Career Center was great. This was a chance for students who have already applied to OSU to meet with an OSU admissions counselor and receive an admissions decision.15 CHS students received their official acceptance to OSU on Wednesday at the Beaver VIP Event, with three additional CHS students receiving feedback from the OSU admission counselor on how they can strengthen their application over T2/T3 to strengthen their chances of being accepted by OSU later this year. Great job Eagles!
Congratulations to CHS Senior Katie Brewer, who signed her National Letter of Intent to play D1 Volleyball for Portland State University on Tuesday Night at her official signing event and showed what it means to exceed the goals in the CSD Centennial Profile of a Graduate.
On Friday, November 22, four students and two staff attended a Unified Schools Leadership Summit at Providence Park. These students are helping lead our effort to explore more intentional and inclusive opportunities for all CHS students. Being a Unified School begins with Special Olympics Unified Sports programs which give educators, students, administrators, and coaches the power to create a more inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, valued, and included both in school and in their local community, also helping support CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27, GOAL #2: Supporting Every Student’s Wellbeing & Inclusion- Each student will feel safe, supported as a learner, and experience inclusive classrooms and school communities that nurture their sense of belonging. What to go, Eagles, and thank you for your Leadership in this important work for our Eagle Nation.
Thank you to CHS ASB and everyone who made our November CHS Spirit Assembly a great event on Wednesday. Thank you to all our students, staff, families, coaches, community partners, and community who came together to recognize our fall sports and activities, the many fun class competitions, and the school spirit. Thank you to CHS ASB for leading. It was a fun assembly, Eagles!
Also, Thank you to everyone who attended Thursday's first annual CHS Winter Fest. We had over 170 students, families, and community members attend and make this a great event. Thank you to our CHS MEChA ( MEChA, or Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán, is a student organization that promotes Chicano culture, unity, and empowerment through action) who partnered with CHS SUN, Key Club, Boy Volleyball Club, Book Club, and many others to make this a fun and inclusive event for all ages. It was a lot of fun and was a great example of Eagles coming together to support CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27, including: GOAL #2: Supporting Every Student’s Wellbeing & Inclusion.
Please remember we have only two school days left until the end of Trimester 1 on November 26th, so there is still time to improve your final Trimester 1 grades. Check your grades, complete any final tests/projects/work, and work with your teachers to turn in any make-up work. Your final Trimester 1 grades will be added to your Transcripts by Monday, December 2nd, and your final Trimester 1 report cards will be mailed home the week of December 2nd. Trimester 2 begins with all new classes on Monday, December 2nd. Let us know what we can do to support you in these final days of this trimester because we are here to help.
Remember, "Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle" at CHS!

CHS Attendance Corner-11/23
As the first trimester of the school year winds to a close, we want to thank you for all your hard work and dedication. This year has started off positive and we are seeing some positive changes around the school.
We need your help to spread the word about one of the ways in which students can be excused for absences and that is through email. Parents or guardians should send an email to chsattendance@csd28j.org when they wish to have their student's absence excused.
When you do, please remember to include your student's first name, last name and student ID number. This helps our attendance team to quickly find your student in our system and record the absence as excused.
As always, we are at your service.
Sincerely,
Maurel Merette - CHS Dean of Students and The CHS Attendance Team

CHS Counselor's Corner:
Message from CHS Counselors - Two School Days Left of Trimester 1
Although there are only two school days left until the end of trimester 1 on November 26th, There is still time to improve your grades, and we are here to support you. Make sure you know where your grades are at using Student/ParentVUE. Check your grades and work with your teachers to make up any work that needs to be completed or raise your grade. Your final Trimester 1 grades will be added to your Transcripts by Monday, December 2nd, and the start of Trimester 2 with all new classes.
High school can be a very challenging period for many students. Concepts of subjects become harder, and the workload increases. With these changes, many students can experience difficulties in school. This doesn’t happen overnight. Often, when a student struggles in school, it first shows up as a progression of missed assignments skipped classes, and failed tests. Schools, families, and students need to work together to address these problems in a timely manner so students do not fall behind.
This is truly a partnership of support, and we are often asked what families and parents can do to support. Here are some tips on how your child can succeed in high school: Be proactive; Use online ParentVue; Make an appointment with a counselor/teacher to identify the problem. CHS offers free-of-charge peer/adult tutoring for after-school tutors (M-Th), Before School (W), and during lunches (M/Th) all year long in any subject, including culturally specific tutoring options for students. Your child’s teacher may also provide before- or after-school extra help to students (you need to set the time in advance with teachers). So, please contact your student's counselor/teacher because we are here to help.

November is National Native American Heritage Month. The month provides an opportunity to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people.
Inclement Weather - Be Ready!
With the colder winter months just around the corner, we want to remind families and staff of the procedures used by our District when inclement weather occurs.
The Centennial School District maintains a preparedness plan for the monitoring of inclement weather and potential weather-related impacts on school operations, including our facilities and road safety for transportation. As these impacts are evaluated, there may be changes to the school schedule, such as a school closure, a delayed start to the school day, or an early dismissal. Snow routes for our school buses will also be used when road conditions are deemed unsafe by our Transportation Department staff.
When inclement weather causes changes such as these, we will notify our staff and families using multiple methods:
- ParentSquare messaging (text, email, app notifications, and/or voicemail). If you need assistance registering for the ParentSquare app, please contact your school office.
- Centennial School District website: www.csd28j.org
- Social Media (Facebook: CentennialSD28j / Instagram: centennial_schools)
- Flash Alert notifies local news stations. Individuals can subscribe to receive FlashAlert updates for Centennial School District here: http://www.flashalert.net/id/centennialsd
Parents/caregivers, if your email address or phone number has changed in the last year, please contact your school office to ensure we have your up-to-date contact information.
