The character trait for the month of November is RESPECT.

Cinnaminson Middle School was proud to continue the “Take a Veteran to School” program on Thursday, November 3rd. Students were invited to bring a veteran to CMS for a special breakfast and ceremony led by Student Council and members of the VFW Post 3020. The ceremony featured a presentation of the colors from the VFW, musical performances from band and chorus members, Patriot’s Pen essays written by our students, and more.

On Monday, November 14th, students in sixth grade will visit a "Living History" memorabilia display provided by VFW Post 3020, and students in seventh grade will participate in our "Discussion with a Veteran", hosted by CMS's own, Mr. Welcher.

Thank you, veterans, for your service and participation in our special events!

Report cards for Marking Period 1 will be accessible through the Parent Portal in Genesis on Friday, November 18th. If you have difficulty accessing your child’s report card, do not hesitate to contact the Main Office for assistance.

Should you have any questions or concerns about your child’s academic progress, please contact his/her teacher(s) or counselor for additional information. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in learning.

Spring Musical auditions will be held on Thursday, November 17th for all students who are interested in auditioning for the cast. Students who want to be considered for the stage crew need to get all forms from Mrs. Lanzoni or Mr. Cirino. FALL SPORTS WRAP-UP:

A successful fall sports season of cross country, field hockey, and soccer has come to a close at CMS. The "A teams" in both girls and boys soccer concluded their seasons undefeated. Our student athletes made CMS proud not only with their success on the field, but, more importantly, with their success in the classrooms and in the hallways of our school. Our student athletes have made their coaches very proud with their efforts during this fall season, and we look forward to more success in the upcoming winter season!

WINTER SPORTS NEWS:

All physicals should have been turned in to the Main Office by Friday, November 4th. All students must have their updated physical and be registered in order to try out for winter sports.

Girls and Boys Basketball tryouts will begin on Monday, November 14th. Tryouts will run from November 14th - 16th. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Welcher (Girls Basketball) or Mr. Noble (Boys Basketball). Girls tryouts will be immediately after school from 2:45 PM - 4:15 PM, and boys will run from 4:15 PM - 5:45 PM. Students must have a ride home from tryouts.

Wrestling will begin practices on November 28, 2022; please contact Mr. Lynch with any questions.

Student school pictures will be distributed on Monday, November 14th. If you have any questions about your photo order, please contact Lors Photography at 908-964-0847 or at customerservice@lorsstudio.com.

If your child was absent on Picture Day or wishes to have his/her picture re-taken, make-ups will occur on Thursday, November 17th. Students will be called via announcements by grade-level for the make-ups. If you have any questions about Picture Day, please contact our Assistant Principal, Ms. Nelson, at nelsons@cinnaminson.com.

Save the Date for the upcoming Scholastic Middle School Book Fair, which will run from December 5th-9th. Parent volunteers will be needed, and it's a nice way to get involved at CMS and help our students. Stay tuned for more details!

Due to the closure of school during the week of November 7th, the next CMS Home and School meeting will occur on Monday, November 14th in the CMS Media Center at 7:00 PM. All are welcome!

Home and School is also launching its BlendedJoe Coffee Fundraiser. The site allows shoppers to choose to have their items shipped, to pick-up in person at BlendedJoe’s location on River Road in Cinnaminson, or to pick up their coffee on Monday, 11/28 at CMS. To pick up at CMS, choose the “add a note” option in the cart, type in “CMS Pick-up”, and then choose the “Pick-up” option when checking out.

Flu Season

Because flu and the common cold have similar symptoms, it can be difficult to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. In general, flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms are typically more intense and begin more suddenly. Colds are usually milder than flu. The flu can cause mild to severe illness. Your child may feel some or all of these symptoms:

● fever* or feeling feverish/chills

● cough

● sore throat

● runny or stuffy nose

● muscle or body aches

● headaches

● fatigue (tiredness)

● vomiting and diarrhea

The single best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get a yearly flu vaccine. Additional preventative measures to help prevent the spread of the flu are:

● keep your child home when sick,

● avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth

● cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze,

● wash your hands with soap and water.

*Please note: Your child should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever

reducing medicine before returning to school.

This month, we will start health screenings in the nurse's office. If you gave permission, your child will be screened for height, weight, blood pressure, and vision (6th and 8th grades - N.J.A.C. 6A:16-2.2(l)2) OR hearing (7th grade - N.J.A.C. 6A:16-2.2(l)3). If your child is being screened for vision, please make sure he/she has appropriate corrective lenses while at school. You will be notified if there is a need for a physician referral.

On Thursday, November 17th, we are encouraging everyone to wear purple for Epilepsy Awareness. Lavender is the international color for epilepsy and is also a color that symbolizes solitude. The goal of Purple Day is to increase general public awareness, to reduce the social stigma endured by many individuals with the condition, and to empower individuals living with epilepsy to take action in their communities.
