MTSD Strategic Planning Update
Community Survey & Focus Group Results Now Available
To ensure that MTSD’s Strategic Plan meets the needs and goals of our school community, we use surveys and focus groups as part of our process. This helps us gather different opinions, combine data with personal feedback, and improve our goals. By doing this, we can provide more value to our students, staff, and community. It also helps our District go beyond the expectations for great education and community involvement.
Thank you to all those who participated in the recent Strategic Planning community survey and focus groups! We recorded more than 1,200 responses to the survey and had approximately 100 participants across 8 focus groups. Dr. Joynt reported the results of these engagement opportunities to the Board of Education during their regular business meeting on Monday, January 27. Detailed results from the survey and focus groups are also available on the Strategic Planning website.
Some key themes that emerged across both the survey and focus groups include:
Equity in Resource Distribution
Technology Modernization
Strengthening the Educator Workforce/Teacher Retention & Quality
Fostering Student Well-Being
Enhancing Curriculum Consistency and Alignment/Curriculum Innovation
Building Community Trust & Collaboration/Community Engagement
Innovating Curriculum for Future Readiness
Safety & Security
Next steps in the Strategic Planning process include drafting and refining strategic goals based on data and feedback and beginning to develop supporting objectives for each strategic goal. A final 2025-2028 Strategic Plan will be presented to the Board approval on Monday, March 17.
MTSD Welcomes New School Resource Officer
SRO Austin Boinski Succeeds SRO Jason Moertl
The Mequon-Thiensville School District, in partnership with the City of Mequon and Village of Thiensville Police Departments, provides two School Resource Officers (SROs) to serve all six district schools. Each SRO is selected through a thorough application and interview process for a four-to-five-year term. Following Officer Jason Moertl’s tenure, which concluded on January 21, Officer Austin Boinski has been appointed as the district's new SRO. Officer Boinski will join Officer Lewis Johnson, who has served as an SRO since January 2021, began his new role on January 27. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Officer Moertl for his exceptional service, fostering positive relationships with students and staff, and contributing significantly to the district's safety and well-being.
Officer Boinski brings nearly nine years of law enforcement experience, including six years with the Mequon Police Department. A West Allis native, he is a dedicated husband and father of three. Inspired by police officers who coached him during his youth, Boinski has long aspired to serve as an SRO, recognizing the profound impact of this role. In addition to his professional dedication, he enjoys sports, movies, and family time. We are confident that Officers Boinski and Johnson will continue the tradition of fostering a safe and supportive environment for our students and school community.
Please join us in welcoming Officer Boinski to the MTSD and thanking Officer Moertl for his years of service to our school communities!
Reminder: Update Your Emergency Contact Preferences in Infinite Campus
With one inclement weather day under our belts already this year, please take a moment to verify and update your emergency contact information in Infinite Campus. If you do not review your information and communication preferences in Infinite Campus, we cannot ensure that you will receive emergency notifications from the district.
To update your contact preferences in Infinite Campus, log in to the parent portal, navigate to the "More" section, then select "Family Information" where you can modify your email address, phone numbers, and choose which types of messages should be sent to each contact point by checking the relevant boxes, then click "Save" to apply changes.
Note on our January 21 school closing communications: We experienced some technical difficulties in sending out our emergency school closure notifications on the evening of Monday, January 20. We later learned Infinite Campus was experiencing some intermittent outages during that time, causing some issues with the phone/voice messages and completely blocking any delivery of SMS, or text, messages. We are fortunate that this closure was determined in advance, and will always do everything possible to ensure that all emergency communications are deployed successfully. In the event of a school closure, please know that updates are always posted in the following secondary locations:

4K and New-to-MTSD 5K Pre-Registration for the 2025-26 School Year
Each year, MTSD holds a designated pre-registration for four-year-old and new-to-MTSD 5-year-old kindergarten. The purpose of pre-registration is to get a good idea of enrollment projections in order to develop class rosters and determine staffing. 4K families can also indicate their morning or afternoon class preference, and pick up some useful information. A link to pre-register will be posted online on February 14th. Please forward this information to anyone you know who will have a 4K student ready for the 2025-26 school year!
