The mission of the Hamilton Southeastern High School Orchestra Program is to challenge, inspire, understand, and represent through the art and communication of music performance.
Southeastern Orchestra Royal Update
HSEHS Southeastern Orchestra, Families!
I simply cannot believe this school year is coming to a close! While I understand that each year somehow feels faster than the last as we get older, this year in particular was like light speed!
I know we can all feel the end of the year creeping in and we are ready for summer to begin.
This is an important time to remind students and families that we are in the midst of final preparations for ISSMA Contests. We are continuing to hold the students to high standards and encouraging them to continue to reach for their full potential. We know what they are capable of and we are reminding them every day.
We look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming ISSMA contests. Please take a moment to read through the information below. Information includes ISSMA Contest times, dates, etc. as well as volunteer opportunities.
Thank you for all you do!
Heather Nieto, Director of Orchestras
Charles Kunz, Associate Director of Orchestras

ISSMA CONTEST CONCESSION STAND
As we gear up for the ISSMA District Band & Orchestra contest on April 19th & 20th here at HSE, we are excited to announce that we will be running a concession stand during this event. The concession stand will offer a variety of snacks and refreshments for our guests to enjoy between groups. We are reaching out to you for your support in making this concession stand a great success.
We are requesting food donations from each family to contribute to the concession stand. Any non-perishable prepackaged items such as chips, popcorn, cookies, candy, soda (in cans), and bottled water are greatly appreciated. Donations can be dropped off at the school office between 8:00 am - 3:00 pm or brought directly to the Orchestra room on the day of the contest. It is important to label your donations with your name and your child’s name so that we can ensure proper recognition.
Your contributions will help us raise funds for the Hamilton Southeastern Orchestra program and create a memorable experience for all attendees.
ISSMA STATE QUALS PREVIEW CONCERT & CLINIC (TUES. 4/16)
ISSMA STATE QUALS PREVIEW CONCERT & CLINIC 2024
Southeastern Symphony students will be performing on Tuesday, April 16th for our State Quals Preview Concert and Clinic. Please see the schedule linked above. The purpose of this performance is to give students an opportunity to perform their contest music prior to the contest event. It is also intended to give the students a "mock judging" experience but with a highly qualified musician that will give direct feedback and work with students in an effort to help them improve prior to the ISSMA State Qualification contest in April.
We are thrilled to have Mr. Matt James giving us feedback as well as leading our clinic and Mr. Randy Greenwell giving us additional feedback during our performance.
ISSMA DISTRICT ORGANIZATION CONTEST (FRI. 4/19)

24ANNOUNCEMENT: ISSMA STATE QUALS CONTEST
Please make note: should we qualify for finals by being ranked in the Top 8 orchestras in the state, we will perform for ISSMA State Finals on Saturday, May 4th. Our time will be .determined based on a draw and we will have no control over that date or time. Please make sure you keep May 4th free from conflicts as there is always a good chance we will advance. The Southeastern Symphony is proud to say that 2022 was the first year in the orchestras history where they advanced to finals and we're looking forward to doing it again!
24-25 CLASS PLACEMENTS
Current Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors are required to complete an orchestra audition regardless of whether or not they plan to continue in orchestra next year. While auditions were due the Thursday prior to Spring Break, students may continue to turn them in. Class lists will be sent to guidance at the end of next week but will not be available to students until May 1st. It is important that families understand that the directors take the following items into consideration when placing students in an orchestra class. In no particular order, we consider:
- Current placement
- Instrumentation
- Student's strengths and weaknesses
- Student behavior
- Student performance
- Student attendance
- Leadership skills
- Student's orchestra preference
It is important to us that students and families understand that class placement is not something the directors throw together last minute. It is a process that we utilize throughout the entire year. If students or families have questions or concerns about class placements after May 1st, please feel free to reach out! We always welcome conversations!
