January
Volunteer of the Month
Shelly Green has been involved with numerous volunteer activities over the last 15 years at Metea Valley High School. Because of her extensive involvement in Metea Valley’s PTA, she is being honored as the January BMO Harris Bank District 204 Volunteer of the Month.
Ms. Green has two children, a current sophomore and a 2021 Metea Valley High School graduate. For the past 29 years, she has been employed at the USG Corporation and her present role is Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer.
Shelly has had the opportunity to get involved in many ways throughout the district. She is the vice president of the Metea Valley Athletic Boosters, coordinator of the Metea Valley senior newsletter, and organizes the soccer program flower sale and the Metea Valley Senior Road Trip. At Owen Elementary, Shelly was the PTA treasurer, committee chair for the Owen resale and the K-2 publishing center.
Her nomination states, “During the pandemic Shelly had deliveries for concessions come to her home and she would make extra trips to the high school to keep concessions well stocked. Shelly has been a big believer that whether it is a freshman game or a varsity playoff game, concessions should be available for all. She is amazing!”
Her father was a high school teacher and coached baseball and football for almost 40 years. Her mother was the administrative coordinator for the superintendent of the school district. Shelly saw firsthand how important volunteering was not only to her parents personally but also the positive support parent volunteers played on their roles.
