About the Newsletter
The Madison-Oneida BOCES Staff and Curriculum Development Newsletter is a platform that we use to provide you with curated resources, things to know, tools to use, and ideas to explore.
If we share them, it's because we have looked at them and we think they might be worthy of your limited time! Click on the things that you think will help you and skip the things that won't.
And remember, we are here if you need us!

UP AND COMING
Cornelius Minor!
If you saw him at our summer conference last year, know that this is a different topic.
If you did not get a chance to see him... you will want to do so!
Project Based Learning
PBL is built to support you as we shift into new structures that better meet the standards!
At the elementary level, it helps us remove some of our content from "silos" of instruction (ELA, Math, Science, Music, etc.) and blend them together, saving time in the school day.
At the secondary level, it provides the real-world context that our students crave.
In both cases, PBL engages, enhances learning, focuses attention, and helps students to better manage time and responsibilities.
Join us on March 22, 23, 28, and 29 as we take you through the structures and models of PBL so that you can walk away with your own PBL experience mostly planned. (We know, 4 days out of the classroom is a lot, but we promise that it will be worth it!)

SOR - Reflection "Sold A Story"
Want a little pep talk on teaching and implementing more science of reading based practices into your classroom? Check out this 13 minute video from a knowledgeable practitioner. It provides helpful tips: listen for the part about why holding off on teaching the tricky parts of words/irregular words is helpful for younger students.
Kristen Poppins is just starting out sharing her expertise, but this practitioner combines practical tips with motivation.

FROM THE CLASSROOM
On 2/2/23 SCD Specialist Jody Popple visited Stokes classrooms in the Rome Central School District to support math workshop model.
Below we find "Stokes Math Thinkers" in Mrs. Alicia D'Alessandro's classroom having fun engaging and collaborating with their 1st grade friends.
Mrs. Popple was able to collaborate with classroom and AIS teachers to support math instruction.
