Growing Together @ STL

Leadership Message
Wow these St. Luke Catholic School students and staff are amazing! So many Shout-Outs this week for great choices and fantastic Servant Leadership!
We've chatted lots to the kids about making sure balls that are brought out for recesses are brought back so we continue to have lots of equipment to play with. Even though he didn't bring the balls out at recess AND he wasn't asked, this fantastic friend ran to return the balls left outside! Thank you for your kindness!
This is our Master Repair Team! We had a broken piece of equipment on our playground, and together they fixed it (temporarily of course)! Yes, duct tape really does fix everything! Thanks team for saying Yes to helping out!
Congratulations to our amazing Choir who made their debut at our St. Luke Feast Day mass at the school with Father Mario! This crew's singing was angelic and they did a phenomenal job leading Music Ministry! Thank you to Mrs. Marple our music specialist and Choir Director, Miss Baldo and Miss Diduck our Chaplain, for all their hard work preparing for mass. A special shout out to one of our oldest leaders at St. Luke for offering to help set up for mass without being asked!
Shout out to Mrs. Williamson for the delicious breakfast wraps Friday morning! We know there were other helpers who made this delicious breakfast possible - thank you! These were a big hit and were enjoyed by students and staff! Thank you Mrs. W.!
Have an amazing and fantastic weekend!
Thank you for choosing Catholic Education for your precious children!
Yours in Christ and with a grateful heart,
Mme Gravelle

Coming to your Inbox Next Week
Early next week, Kindergarten to Grade 8 families will receive an email with instructions on how to book your child's 3-Way Conferences with your child's teacher(s). These conversations are vital to understand where your child is on their learning journey. These conversations are sparked from the learning evidence in your child's Evidence of Learning Portfolios. You are invited to review the Evidence of Learning Portfolios prior to 3 Way Conferences to be familiar with your child's progress, areas of strength and areas for growth.
It is inevitable that when parents are involved in their child's learning, there is an increased chance of learning success.
Thank you for setting aside time to spend some time with your child's teacher and your child to celebrate successful learning at this checkpoint, and plan for future growth together.
Three Way Conferences are scheduled for
Tuesday, November 5, from 3:30pm - 6:30pm
Wednesday, November 5 from 2:30pm - 630pm
Stay tuned for the link to reserve your conference time.

STL's Halloween Festivities
We are excited to share with you the plan for Halloween celebrations @ STL!
As always we will begin our days with prayer and announcements...in our costumes.
Early in the day, while our costumes are all in one piece, at approximately 8:30am all students will head to the gym for a small dance and costume show-off parade.
Grades will return to their classes for their in-class celebrations the rest of the day.
Grades 5&6 will make and prepare a special Halloween snack for all STL students and deliver themto the kids.
Grades 7&8 students will be working with Mrs. Kozitzky to build a Haunted House for all kids to enjoy later in the afternoon.
Super fun day!
Announcing Grade 3-8 Board Games Club!
Next week Mme Gravelle will be launching a grade 3-8 Board Games Club (BGC) at lunch recess on Wednesdays in the cafeteria.
The purposes of the Board Games Club are to build:
- Connection and community
- Capacity in a variety of games
- Problem Solving and Executive Functioning Skills
- Positive and Inclusive social interactions
- Joy and laughter
- If someone doesn't know how to play a certain game, kids will teach each other how
- If a student would like to play a game, they are welcome to join.
- Duration of play will be during the lunch recess, with clean up time built in before the bell.
- Positive, respectful and inclusive social interactions = continued play
If your child would like to join...Great! If you have an intact board game they are interested in playing and you are willing to donate it - double great! Thank you!
We do have some games at St. Luke to start us off. If you have an intact board game you would like to donate - Thank you in advance! Mme Gravelle will gather them in the office.
So excited! Thank you for your support!
What do we do when it's Cold Outside?
Our EICS Administrative Procedure 134 outlines that all children are outside for regular recess times to -25c temperature or Windchill. This year we are introducing Polar Bear Recess for those days when we may be colder than -25 because outdoor fresh air play is vital to children's optimal learning and health. Stay tuned for more details about our exciting Polar Bear Recesses!
Colder months are on the way....
If you or someone you know is in need of winter wear, please reach out to Mrs. Bilyk or Mme Gravelle in the office. We are delighted to help.
Laughing Together is Healthy!

Christmas in the Country
Together with St. Luke Catholic School, the St. Luke School Council and Parent Association is thrilled to once again be a participating venue in Strathcona County's annual Christmas in the Country event! This event enables our school council to provide student enrichment and volunteer opportunities within our school community.
This year, we are offering students the opportunity to be their own boss with the addition of our Young Entrepreneurs Maker Market! Located in the foyer and main hallway, spaces will be $10.00 each and vendors will be responsible for bringing their own table (no more than 6 feet long). Chairs will be provided.
Below is a link to the Google Form application to be filled out if you are interested in joining us this year, either in the main market or the Young Entrepreneurs Maker Market. Our main market is nearly full so don’t hesitate to get your form filled out! Young entrepreneur registration should be filled out by a parent or guardian using the parent or guardian’s contact information. Included in the form is the St. Luke Parent Association Treasurer's email for e-transfer payments.

Strathcona County Library Survery
It’s time for Strathcona County Library to create a new service plan to ensure that they’re meeting the current needs in our community.
Part of the process is a survey, hosted on County Voice. The library hopes to hear from a broad cross-section of Strathcona County residents, including school-age children and their parents:
What draws you to the library?
What might be missing?
How can the library make their services more welcoming & accessible for everyone?
The input gathered will shape services and help the library plan for the future.
Take the 5-minute survey on County Voice, open until Sunday, Oct. 20.
