RICA Annual Food Drive
Dear RICA Community,
We are excited to announce that AP African American Studies is organizing a food drive to support families in our community this season. Our goal is to come together to make a difference and offer much-needed assistance to those who may be facing food insecurity. This drive is an opportunity to share and uplift one another, reflecting the strength and compassion of our school community.
From now until December 17, 2024 , we will be collecting non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, rice, pasta, peanut butter, and other essentials. Donation bins will be located in room 301 and the main office. Every contribution counts, and we invite each member of our community to participate in any way they can.
In addition to donating, students in AP African American Studies will be leading the effort by sorting and packaging items, ensuring that each family receives a variety of nutritious foods. This initiative not only provides essential support but also embodies the importance of service and empathy in our studies and daily lives.
Thank you for helping us support our neighbors and make a positive impact. Your generosity and kindness are deeply appreciated.
Warm regards,
Nikki Taylor
AP African American Studies

MCPS Updating the cell phone use in schools
MCPS is reviewing the current cell phone use in schools due to so many issues occuring over social media causing unsafe situations in schools. At this time all day students can have phones and resident students who attend Edison can have their phone when they leave but must return them when they arrive back to RICA. We know many issues we have had at school have had a social media involvement as well as may record incidents that have occured at school. At this time we will be starting focus groups with students, families and staff about the cell phone use in school and looking to begin a new cell phone policy during the 25-26 school year.
