FES End of the Year Newsletter
June 2024
🤍 Principal Message 💚
Hello FES Families,
As we head into our last days of school, we get to celebrate all of the accomplishments of our students! Whether they are small achievements or big achievements, we celebrate all of them. Some of our students may have learned to tie their shoes, and some may have grown 50 points on their NWEA score, no matter the achievements we are proud of each one of them.
Our semester officially ends on the last day of school, and our report cards will be available through Skyward on that day. You will be able to see a label that says "Report Cards" once they are finalized, and that is how you will access your child's report card. You will not be able to click this until June 7. If you would like a paper report card, please call our front office to request no later than June 5. Paper report cards (if requested) will be sent home with students on June 7. If you requested a paper report card in the winter, you will automatically receive one for this semester as well.
Some reminders about Report Cards and Scoring
Letter Grades: Our 6th graders use a traditional grading system, and those grades will be reflected on their report cards.
Standards Based Grading: In Freeland Community School District for grades K-5th, we use standards based grading, which is different than your traditional scoring of letter grading and percentages. By using standards based grading, it allows teachers to score children on a scale for the state standards in which they teach, and allows children to receive academic related feedback on an ongoing basis that shows guided improvement. The scale is 1-4, and specific indicator descriptions will be listed on report cards.
Standards Based Scale Indicator:
4: Accelerated
3: Consistent and Independent Application (Desired Level)
2: Occasionally Needs Support
1: Does not meet grade level expectations
Again, we are proud of each accomplishment our students have made this year and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing your children with us and trusting us each day with them. It is our pleasure to support them and our Falcon Community.
Reminder:
Friday, June 7 is the Last Day of School!
5th and 6th Grade: Release at 11:05 a.m. on Thursday (6/6) and Friday (6/7)
2nd-4th Grade: Release at 12:30 p.m. on Friday (6/7)
Your Proud Principal,
Mrs. Kali McKenna
Moving or Leaving Freeland? 🏠
Are you moving or relocating over the summer? Will your child be attending a different school in the Fall? If your child will not be attending Freeland Community School District next school year (2024-2025), please call the main office at 989-695-5371 to let us know. This helps us to plan accordingly during placement and scheduling.
You DO NOT need to call if you plan on returning to FCSD next year.
Field Days Next Week!🌞
Field Days are coming up next week for our 2nd-5th graders. Please know that if you have a 6th grader, information for their last week schedule will come directly from the 6th grade team.
Tuesday, June 4: FIELD DAY
5th Grade: 8:35-12:05 (students break for lunch from 10:20-10:50)
4th Grade: 12:30-3:30
Wednesday, June 5: FIELD DAY
2nd Grade: 9:20-12:20 p.m.
3rd Grade: 12:40-3:40 p.m.
Our teachers are planning fun events for the students during these times and will be on our playground. Parents are welcome to drop in and say hi to their child during these windows of time, or jump in a game or two. Parents can park in the east parking lot (nearest to the bus garage) and enter the playground through the gate. We ask that you do not sign your child out during this time, so that our attendance is accurate. If you want to sign your child out after field day, please go to the main office, and we will call for your child to come to you. Once field day is over, we ask that you leave through the playground gates. We appreciate your cooperation with this so that we can continue the flow of our school day and also be able to invite families to enjoy this special day with their children.
⭐⭐⭐Please know that if we need to make adjustments to the schedule because of weather, we will need to move indoors, and will not be able to have parents inside the building during these times due to spaces that we will need to use to provide our students with a fun opportunity. An email will be sent an hour before the start of field days to notify if we need to make a shift. ⭐⭐⭐
