Smartwatch Policy Update
Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. As technology continues to evolve, we recognize that many students are using smartwatches as part of their daily lives. While these devices can offer valuable benefits, we also want to ensure they do not interfere with the learning environment.
To maintain focus and minimize distractions, we are implementing the following guidelines regarding smartwatch use during school hours:
Cell phones and Smart Watches: They need to be off and put away to avoid distractions.
Classroom Use: Smartwatches and cell phones are not allowed to be used on campus. Students need to wait until they are in front of the school to use them.
Emergency Situations: If a student needs to use their smartwatch for an emergency, they should ask their teacher first.
Illness: Students should come to the office if they don’t feel well.
We appreciate your support in discussing these guidelines with your child. Our goal is to foster a productive educational environment while allowing students to benefit from their technology.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your cooperation!

Please take this quick survey about Arts in the school with Prop 28 monies
Proposition 28, also known as the "Arts and Music in Schools Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act," was on the ballot in California during the 2022 elections. Here are some key points about it:
Purpose
- Increased Funding: Prop 28 aimed to provide more funding for arts and music education in California public schools.
- Guaranteed Funding: It proposed a guarantee of funding specifically for arts and music programs, with an annual allocation of about $1 billion for all schools in the state.
We are looking for your input on what you would like to see us use the monies to add to our programs.
This week at Riebli...
Annoucements
Don't wait until Spring! Last year many families came in at the end of the year wanting a yearbook. We do not order extra yearbooks! Order now and don't worry about it in May!
Lunch Program
The State of California is providing FREE breakfast (served at snack time) and lunch to all children.
At Riebli, students need to SIGN UP with their teacher for snack or lunch at the beginning of school each day. This allows us to know how many meals to prepare.
The menu will be located in the Riebli Record weekly. If your student has dietary concerns, please email Melanie at mbarmore@mwusd.org to do the paperwork.
Thanks
Boys and Girls Club Update
PTA MEETING Schedule
Music News
Music signups are now closed for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, with the possible exception of new transfer students. If your 4th-, 5th-, or 6th-grader has signed up for a music class, please help your child to remember their instrument and music folder/book on their music day! Placing these items by the door the night before may help, or set an alarm with the sound of your child's instrument to go off before you typically leave the house.
The next meeting of the Mark West Education Foundation (MWEF) will be on Monday, October 7th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the District Office Learning Center at 305 Mark West Springs Rd. Please join us at this meeting of district parents and staff to find ways to help music and arts education thrive in the Mark West Union School District! We'd love to see some new faces at the next meeting!
Finally, we are excited to share that the SchoolsRule campaign launched last November at the Sonoma County Office of Education to supplement school district budgets to support the efforts of arts foundations to create or expand programs. Our Superintendent Dr. Valenzuela and Board of Education Trustee Brian Burke received a check in the amount of just over $2800 for our foundation. The MWEF will be evaluating how to use the funds.
