Kennedy News

Current and prospective MAPS families tell us they need access to early learning programming, including all-day preschool and birth-to-school-age childcare. The November 7 bond referendum includes space for early learning expansion to provide comprehensive birth to preschool programming at MAPS Center for Learning and Eagle Lake Elementary. Watch this video as Katie Gag, Assistant Director of Early Learning, shares the need for additional classroom space to serve young learners and their families. These proposed renovations demonstrate a commitment to providing a strong, future-focused educational foundation for our youngest learners, setting them on a path to academic and social success. Learn more about the facilities bond referendum at www.isd77.org/vote2023 and make your plan to vote on or before November 7, 2023.
Impact of Early Learning Access at Kennedy
Kennedy has a strong tradition of offering great pre-k programming to our future Cubs. Currently, the model we have is a program that is open to four year olds in the Kennedy and Washington attendance areas. While many pre-K programs have moved into the Center for Learning, Kennedy's program has not because there is not a finished space for them yet. As much as we love seeing the pre-k Cubs here in our building, we also know that they are missing out on the shared resources at the Center for Learning. Some of the resources include an option for all day care, access to activity spaces specifically designed to meet the developmental needs of 4 year olds, bathrooms that are designed to the meet the needs of our youngest students, as well as more space for active student engagement and storage for all of the materials needed. When the referendum passes, the funds will be in place to finish the Center for Learning so that our future Cubs will have the same access to developmentally appropriate spaces as the other pre-k programs.
Below are some pictures of our current pre-k space as well as a rendering of the completed Center for Learning.
Kennedy families, please make a plan to get out and vote! Early voting is already open. Visit www.isd77.org/vote2023 to learn more!

Current Pre-K Entrance at Kennedy
Pre-K families enter Kennedy through door 13. This is not a primary entrance to Kennedy. It most be monitored by additional staff from the pre-k program. The entrance at the Center for Learning is a secure entrance at the front of the building.
Current Student Cubbies at Kennedy
Currently the pre-k students at Kennedy have to utilize common hallway space that is open to the K-5th grade students.
Pre-K Classroom at Kennedy
The pre-k classroom at Kennedy is a nice space but was not designed with the needs of 4 year olds. The spaces at the Center for Learning would give our students more access to active movement zones, such as an indoor playground.
