Covington Celebrates Paraprofessionals on Their Special Day!

In a heartfelt celebration of the unsung heroes of education, we celebrated Paraprofessional Appreciation Day on Wednesday, April 3rd. This day is dedicated to recognize all the support our paraprofessionals give our staff and students. Paraprofessionals are the backbone of our school providing essential assistance to teachers and students alike.

Back to Bear Basics

As Hannum Bears returned from Spring Break Mrs. Doornbos and Miss Turek held a PBIS refresher bootcamp during SEL times. Students reviewed arrival/dismissal behaviors, hallway behaviors, classroom behaviors, lunch/recess expectations and assembly expectations. Student volunteers were called up to demonstrate an example of how to behave in these settings and then a non-example of how students should not behave.

Heartfelt Heroes

Every year we celebrate Paraprofessional Appreciation Day on April 3. However, every day we honor these unsung heroes at Hometown Elementary. Our paraprofessionals play such an important role within our school. Currently, Hometown Elementary staffs approximately 25 paraprofessionals. Along with the classroom teacher, paraprofessionals support teachers and students in so many ways.

Spring Parties at Kolmar

Kolmar PTA organized our classroom Spring parties for Friday, March 22nd. The parties were awesome! There were so many fun games and crafts at each classroom's party. We are very lucky to have so many amazing parent volunteers willing to come in and make these events even more special for our students.

Kindergarten's Royal Ball

On Friday, March 22nd the Kindergarten hallway at Sward School was turned into a royal kingdom. The three Queens of the Sward Kingdom: Queen Jensen, Queen Alvarado and Queen Derus welcomed all their princes and princesses for a most formal Kindergarten Royal Ball. Students dressed in their fanciest attire for the special occasion.

Students at OLHMS Get Ready for Big Test

In preparation for the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) test, students at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School (OLHMS) have embarked on a comprehensive journey of preparation, encompassing various strategies to ensure success. To kickstart their preparation, students engaged with the IAR Readiness Tool, familiarizing themselves with the test's functions and layout.

OLHMS Declamation Team

Just before spring break, our OLHMS students took their talents to Palos Middle School to compete against every school in the SWIC Conference for Declamation. Ms. Kennedy led and coached the Declamation Team of six OLHMS students ranging from 6-8th grade.

15 DAY PROGRAM - NO FRIDAYS!

JUNE 17, 18, 20 ~ JUNE 24 - 27

JULY 8 - 11 ~ JULY 15 - 18

Programs are available for Pre-K to 8th grade students and will be held at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School.
