HELP US SELECT NEW SMITH GYM CENTER COURT!
Awesome Story out of Transportation!
Lance Relyea a Junior, recently lent his talents as a welder to the bus garage. One of our buses required repair on an aluminum door. We faced either putting the bus out of service for a few weeks while we waited for parts or seeing if someone could weld the door for us.
Phil and I both have little to no experience welding aluminum so we reached out to Shop Teacher Dan'a Borland for help. Dan'a said she had just the student. We made arrangements and she sent Lance to our aid. In no time lance had the door welded and Phil had the door reinstalled on the bus to make it available for the afternoon route. Kudos to all.
Middle School Update
We had lots of engaging learning activities this week in the middle school. Students in 8th grade played The Giver review Jeopardy in English class, Acids and Bases bingo and an escape room activity in science class, and 7th grade science classes dissected bullfrogs. It’s been a really fun week of learning planned out by our awesome middle school teachers.
If you’d like to participate in a great evening of astronomy focused learning and fun, please join us as our LAP and Title program partners with RECAP for a family night out with astronomy and stargazing at the Train Museum next Tuesday, March 21st from 6-8:30. We are serving sub sandwiches and chips for dinner followed by some cool activities including an Oreo moon phases edible project! We hope to see you there!
Please keep checking in with students to help them focus on our character trait of Responsibility this month to earn the PBIS end of month reward for having zero missing assignments and no office or bus referrals. We are going to have a structured competition with “Minute to Win it” games and fun prizes. All students know how to check their Skyward grades and missing assignments–just ask them!

HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR CORNER
NOTE FROM HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,
I can’t believe it is already the middle of March. I wanted to provide you with some important reminders as we finish up this school year. Attendance is so important for student's academic success. I know that students are involved in many activities. If your student is going to be absent or leaving early, we need parents to call and let us know. We will not let a student sign out without a note, phone call, or email.
State testing is scheduled for the middle of April and into May. We will communicate specific dates closer to the time. If your student is not state testing we will be doing some community service projects in town around spring clean-up.
We will be having our second-quarter and first-semester awards assembly next week. I am so impressed with the number of students who are on the honor roll. We have 91 students who have a grade point average of 3.3 or above. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to me by email at jray@reardansd.net or 509-796-2701 Ext. 4126.
Sincerely,
JoLynn Ray
Principal
