Slate Ridge Monthly Newsletter
January 2023
Hello! nín hǎo! ahlan! szia!
Welcome Back!
As we head into 2023, we are excited to welcome our Toucans back to school five days a week. Slate Ridge's building hours have not changed. We will still welcome students into the building starting at 7:55 each morning (with students arriving after 8:10 considered tardy). Additionally, our dismissal times and procedures will remain the same.
If you would like to confirm your child's transportation information, please log onto our district's website and click on the Transportation Department. Full details on our bussing and how to check student specific routes and stop times are available.

Student Illness
If your child has a fever of 100 degrees or above, your child must stay home for 24 hours after the fever has subsided without the use of medication to reduce the fever. Having a fever indicates that a child is infectious. This will enable your child to remain healthier at school as well as the other students in their classroom. In addition, if your child is vomiting or has diarrhea, we encourage your child to remain at home for 24 hours after symptoms have subsided. For conjunctivitis (pinkeye), impetigo, or strep throat, the guidelines include 24 hours of antibiotic treatment prior to re-entering school. If a student is sent home from school by the school nurse, the student will be given a notice with information on when he/she can return to school. This note will excuse the time missed from school only for the specific dates listed. Any additional days absent will require a signed doctor or parent note.
Attendance (HB410)
Students who arrive to school after 8:10 am are considered tardy. Those students will need to be brought into the office through the main front doors by a parent/guardian and signed in.

Weekly Reading Logs
As we head into a new year, we encourage our students and families to read at home. A weekly reading log will come home on Mondays and will have four nightly boxes to complete before turning in the reading log on Friday. As an incentive, if your child completes their weekly reading log and brings it back to school on Friday, they can enter their reading log into a bucket for a chance to have their log drawn at the bi-weekly Monday morning RISE Assembly. If their reading log is drawn, they will get to come on stage and play Plinko (see pictures below) ! Prizes vary from RISE Money to spend at the School Store, restaurant coupons, or free books! While this reading log is not mandatory, we are hoping to encourage reading beyond the school building. If you need support with books to read at home, please contact your child's teacher directly. Thank you and happy reading!
Bus Rider Expectations
Parents of bus riders: We need your help!
Please encourage your children to continue their RISE (respectful, responsible, and ready) behavior on the school bus. We are asking for your support in having conversations with your children about the important responsibility of our drivers to keep children safe while transporting them to and from school. Students are expected to be seated and using an "inside"/'level 2" voice while riding the bus.
