A Note From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We had a full week at Munson! We've now completed a fire drill and a safety/lockdown drill, and we also went over bus safety rules with our drivers. It was a hot week, but our students and teachers persevered! The students enjoyed popsicles at recess thanks to the PTO's donation.
On Tuesday evening, we had an awesome "bird tornado" community program with the Geauga Park District. The chimney swifts were swirling, until the rain hit and then they all went straight down the chimney! There will be another chance to see the chimney swifts on Thursday, September 5 at 7pm. It's a free event and everyone's welcome to attend - just bring a chair and come to the parking lot to watch! Have a great long weekend, enjoy the Fair (and good luck to our students that are showing animals or otherwise participating), and we'll see you back at school on Tuesday, September 3!
Sincerely,
Mat Prezioso
Principal, Munson Elementary
Mr. Prez's Pic of the Week
Thank you to our bus drivers and the transportation department for teaching us about bus safety this week!
Clinic Corner
Hello parents and guardians!
Here are a few clinic updates/reminders:
We cannot administer medications in the school clinic without an order (this includes prescribed AND over the counter medications). Here are a few examples to refer to (this does not include all possible scenarios):
- Your child has a cough and asks for a cough drop in the clinic. In order to provide cough drops to your child at school, you will need to fill out an over-the-counter order form AND provide cough drops to the school for your child (which we will keep locked in the clinic).
- Your child has a rash (undiagnosed) that is recognized at home OR at school. We will call you about any rash that we see at school; however, we will not put hydrocortisone (or any ointment) on the rash. The rash would need to be treated outside of school. If an ointment is prescribed, the doctor could fill out a medication form to have the ointment at school, OR a parent could fill out an over-the-counter form and provide an ointment to the school (when the rash's cause has been identified).
- These are just a few examples, but please feel free to call if you have any other examples to review with us!
Prior to the holiday weekend, I also wanted to ask parents and guardians to please address issues with bug bites at home prior to coming to school. We have many students asking teachers to come to the clinic with reports of bug bites that occurred outside of school. These bites can be very distracting to kids (and anyone!), so please address them properly at home to avoid unnecessary trips to the clinic. If left unaddressed, we can simply intervene by providing Vaseline to the area and an ice pack for comfort!
Thank you again for letting us care for your awesome children, and for partnering with us to keep our school happy, healthy and safe!

Please Complete Your Annual Update!
The Annual Update must be completed by ALL Chardon Local Schools households every year, for every student, even if there are no changes. This ensures that we have the most accurate information for your student and household. This helps us to contact you promptly in case of an emergency, allows you to pay for student meals and school fees online, and gives you access to important forms and documents, including report cards. We need your updated information as soon as possible! Find Annual Update instructions HERE.
The first class to complete 100% of their Annual Updates will win a special treat for the entire class!

PTO News & Upcoming Events
Follow the Munson PTO on Facebook and Instagram (@MunsonPTO) for news and regular updates on upcoming events. You can also email munsonelementarypto@gmail.com with questions or ideas. All parents and guardians are automatically PTO members just by having a student attending Munson! We have no membership fees or other requirements to join. We are always looking for volunteers with all kinds of abilities, skills, ideas, and availability. Thank you for your support!
PTO Volunteers Needed!
Hello Munson families! The PTO is looking for wonderful volunteers to share in the fun for this school year with our students.
The COMMITTEES link is for volunteering for our family events in two ways: either as a chairperson to help plan, arrange, and execute an event, or you can sign up to help on the committee. The link for CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS is for in-class events such as room parent, party volunteer, book fairs, etc. You are welcome to sign up for as much or as little as you wish. The links to sign up will be closing on September 7 so that we can organize the volunteers and begin contacting everyone by mid-September. Please be sure to sign up by then!
Questions? You can reach out to the PTO by email at munsonelementarypto@gmail.com or on Facebook! Thank you!
