Welcome Back!
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We hope all of our Robinson G. Jones families have had a relaxing, fun, and safe summer! We’re excited to begin this journey with your children, from our youngest learners in PreK to our future leaders in 8th grade. Our dedicated teachers and staff have been working hard to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where every student can thrive. We look forward to partnering with you to support your child's growth academically, socially, and emotionally. Opening Day for students in Grades 1-8 is Monday, August 19th, 2024, at 8:35am (breakfast begins at 8:15am. School dismissal is at 3:05pm. Let’s make this year one of exploration, discovery, and success together!
Arrival Procedures
Parents/Guardians should have their children arrive no earlier than 8:15am, as there is no adult supervision until 8:15am. For arrival, we will have students line up in the side parking lot (off Violet), in their appropriate grade lines (pictured below). Cars are not allowed in the blocked-off playground parking lot during arrival. At approximately 8:15am. We will then proceed to walk to the front of the building and enter through the main entrance, to get our bags checked and walk through the metal detector. If your child is not eating breakfast, they should arrive at school at 8:30am. School begins at 8:35am.
Traffic Procedures
Parents are asked to enter the parking lot off Violet. Proceed with the loop shaped driving pattern (below). Drop off your scholar at the cones, then proceed to exit out of the parking lot to Violet from the main entrance. We ask that scholars are dropped off at the “west” side of the school, back parking lot and not on West 150th at the bus loading zone or in front of the school. Please be aware that Violet is a one-way street during arrival and drop-off hours. You could receive a ticket if you ignore the “one-way” traffic rules.
DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
For the 2024-2025 school year, dismissal is at 3:05pm. Bus riders will dismiss from the front of the building, exit towards the pillars and flagpole, and wait in the designated areas to be called to their bus. No students are allowed to run in the front grass unattended.
Walkers will dismiss from the Coe Street exit door at the front of the building to walk south on West 150th or to the crossing guard area. All other walkers will exit from the gym doors to the back sidewalk to walk to Violet and West 150th going north.
Parents picking up their children must remain in their vehicles and move forward as the line proceeds. Please stay in your car and follow the line to the colored boarding areas for your students’ grade level. Cars are not allowed in the blocked-off playground parking lot during dismissal. Students will be waiting in the parking lot /sidewalk for their parents. Pick-up will be supervised by R.G. Jones staff.
No Cell Phones/Electronics
The Cleveland Metropolitan School District has adopted a NO CELL PHONE POLICY this school year that will be implemented on the first day of school. Students in ALL grade levels will be required to turn-in their cell phone when entering the school. The cell phones will be locked away and secured from arrival until dismissal time. This new policy will be strictly enforced for all students. Please begin to have a conversation with your child so he/she/they are aware of the new rules. This also includes other electronics including ear buds. Students will be expected to follow the new guidelines. This should not be an issue, since we collected cell phones at R.G. Jones last year. Students failing to adhere to the policy will be issued discipline based on the district policy.

START STRONG WITH ATTENDANCE!
Let's talk about something super important: chronic absence. But don't worry, we'll keep it simple!
So, what exactly is chronic absence? It's when a student misses 10 percent or more of the days they're supposed to be in school. In Ohio, that's about 18 days or more in a school year.
Now, what's the big deal?
Well, missing a lot of school can cause some serious problems. By the time a student reaches sixth grade, being absent a lot could mean they're at risk of dropping out of high school later. And did you know that by ninth grade, being at school regularly is a better predictor of whether a student will graduate than on tests back in eighth grade?
Sometimes, missing school can be a sign that something's not quite right. It could mean a student is losing interest in school, having trouble with their schoolwork, dealing with a bully, or facing other tough stuff.
Plus, when some kids are absent a lot, it can slow down the whole class. Teachers might have to spend extra time helping those students catch up, which can hold everyone back.
But here's the good news: showing up to school every day is a super important skill for life! It can help your child graduate from college and land a great job someday.
Here's a little stat for you: students who miss 10 or more days in a school year tend to score lower on their state reading and math tests. And get this—they're also more likely to fall behind and not be on track to graduate.
So, let's make a pledge together to fight absenteeism and finish the school year STRONG! Keep an eye out for the QR code to take the pledge and join us in making a commitment to being there for school every day. Remember, it's not just about how you start—it's about how you finish!
