THE CAVALIER CHRONICLE
September 2023
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
As I write this, we are getting ready for the September puppy social at our house. Hopefully most of you could attend as we discuss the breed standard, the origins of the club and the differences between the AKC and old club. We also plan to talk about the various rescue and health foundations that exist.
We have also sent out an email blast introducing our partnership with GenSol. Club members can earn points and monetary discounts on genetic testing when using the discount code. Included in GenSol’s testing is genetic testing for DE/CC/EF and DM for cavaliers. The email provided the discount code. This is a great opportunity for all members as GenSol seems to be about the only group still doing this testing.
Membership packets for 2024 are in the mail and you should be receiving them shortly if you haven’t already received them. For anybody that is currently an associate member and lives in Georgia, I ask that you consider applying to become a regular member. You will need a regular member to sponsor you and have been active in the club. Becoming a regular member gives you voting privileges in helping set the direction and activities of the club.
We are asking everybody that has achieved and AKC recognized titles (front and back) to let us know as we would like to recognize them at our holiday luncheon and in the December newsletter. Please send the information requested later in this newsletter to Sharon.
If you have anybody you would like to nominate for the Presidents award, please send to me along with a brief writeup on why you think they are deserving.
We will be having our annual holiday party on December 10th at 5 Paces Inn. The invitations have been sent and I am looking forward to another great turnout. We will be recognizing our milestone members, our new title holders, an ugly sweater contest, the Presidents award winner, and great food and friends. Hope you are able to make it this year.
The club store is open for sponsorships of the various major placements at our specialty in February. We have also opened up new opportunities to sponsor the food and room at the Saturday Social. Please consider supporting the club and our specialty.
Thanks
Jim

December Holiday Luncheon
Our Holiday Luncheon will be held on Sunday December 10th at the 5 Paces Inn from 1pm to 4pm. The main will be baked ham. We ask that everyone bring a side to share! We had some great sides, appetizers and desserts last year!
An evite invitation will be emailed out the first week of November for your RSVP and indicate what side you will bring. Please be on the lookout for that email!
We will be recognizing several 20+ year members at the luncheon and also our 2023 new title holders.
There will also be a few extra “surprises”! (Yes, it was intentionally misspelled)
Start searching for that ugliest sweater for our Ugly Sweater Contest and that perfect White Cavalier gift that will be the envy of all to steal. We had so much fun last year and hope you can attend this year!
Do You Have A New Title Holder in 2023?
If your cavalier achieved a new title in 2023 (can be conformation, therapy, Canine Good Citizen, Performance, Obedience, Agility, Trick Dog, etc.) please let us know as we plan on a year end celebration of our 2023 new title holders during the Holiday Luncheon.
Email Sharon Utych with the following information no later than November 17, 2023:
Dog’s AKC Registered Name, Call Name, New title(s) earned in 2023.
2024 WINTER SPECIALTY
Did you know that our Sunday Specialty show will be our 30th Specialty show given as a club?! WOW! What a milestone!
We would like to put together some photos of our specialty through the years, so if you have any photos to share, please email them to Sharon Utych (utych@earthlink.net)
Additionally, our Sunday Specialty is in memory of the late Marlene Anderson. We will have a cake ringside on Sunday to celebrate her life. If you have any memories or photos to share, please email them to Sharon Utych by December 1, 2023.
And remember, we need your support to help put on another fabulous Specialty weekend! We already have some great zippered exhibitor bags donated with our club logo on the front now we just need donations to fill them! If you are so moved to donate items for our bags, we need about 80 items as we make 80 bags. We typically fill them with water, poop bags, tissues, snacks, doggie treats, pens or pencils, etc.
We also will continue to have our ringside basket auction which is always highly successful due YOUR generous donations. Think about donating a theme basket as they go over really well!
LaVada McCosh is working on finalizing our Saturday evening social menu. We will be having a catered taco and fajita bar this year and it should be a great time with a few very special live auction items available to bid on at the social. If you are so moved to donate funds toward the catered meal and the cost of the room rental, we have set up a special donation page on our website:
And lastly, our sponsorship page is now OPEN on our website! Again, due to YOUR generosity, we filled ALL slots at our last specialty – let’s do it AGAIN!

NATURAL REMEDIES
NATURAL REMEDY FOR BRUISED OR SORE MUSCLES
Let’s say your dog overdid it at the weekend agility trials or tangled with a neighbor’s dog. You broke up the fight quickly.
Upon inspection of your dog from head to tail, you notice he has bruising on his abdomen caused by the pressure of a tooth dragging across the body. However, there is no evidence of any puncture wounds, and your dog is not showing any signs of pain.
Natural treatment option: arnica. This homeopathic medicine is from a sunflower perennial that blooms in the early spring and is also known as Leopard’s Bane.
It is available in pellets, creams and gel forms at health stores and also through Amazon.com.
Giving Arnica 30 c in pellet form (four to six pellets equal one dose) to your dog to help with pain and resolve inflammation quickly.
Always discuss any treatment with your vet.
RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Quick & Easy Peanut Butter Dog Treats
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter - crunchy can also be used
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup water
You can use other kinds of peanut butter such as chunky, but if you do you’ll probably need to add more water to the mixture in order to make it into a workable dough.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 F.
- Mix together your flour, peanut butter & eggs in a large bowl until slightly combined.
- Add in a little bit of water (approximately one Tbsp at a time) until the mixture becomes wet enough to roll out as dough.
- Roll out your dough & cut out your favorite shapes with some cookie cutters.
- Place your treats onto your baking sheet & cook for about 15 minutes. For a little bit of crunch, I like to take mine out once the bottoms start to darken.
BRAGS
Ashley Powell and Carolyn Powell (Monticello Cavaliers) would like to brag about their girls, Stassie and London. Stassie finished up her points over the weekend and is now AKC CH Monticello Like Dreamers Do CGC (with pending approval) and London earned her Bronze AKC Grand Champion title making her officially known as AKC GCHB CH Monticello Crown Jewel!
Jim & Sharon Utych are bragging on their boy Lennyn (AKC GCH CH Brookhaven Number Nine Dream CGC) as he was awarded two 4 point Select Dog Majors at the Lexington KC shows over Labor Day weekend.
