Instructionally, any subject or concept that is presented to a child in a format that engages their attention is perceived as nonthreatening. Jiji is simply a game in some instances. Connections are made they learn new concepts throughout the year.

Reimagining Math Education


Spatial-Temporal (ST) Math® is the leader in visual math instruction and represents the highest quality and most effective blended learning math solution in K-12 education.


Created by MIND Research Institute, ST Math is game-based instructional software for K-12 and is designed to boost math comprehension and proficiency through visual learning. Integrating with classroom instruction and identified by the CEO-led Change the Equation as one of just four STEM programs ready to scale nationally, ST Math incorporates the latest research in learning and the brain and promotes mastery-based learning and mathematical understanding. The ST Math software games use interactive, graphically-rich animations that visually represent mathematical concepts to improve conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills.


Whether in the classroom, computer lab or at home, learning never stops with ST Math. When teachers bring ST Math into the classroom, projected onto a screen or interactive whiteboard, the software games help students make connections between the visual representations from ST Math and symbolic representations found in their core instruction. With the touch functionality of ST Math students experience an even greater level of interactivity.


What is Spatial-Temporal Reasoning? Born out of neuroscience research at the University of California, Irvine, MIND’s unique approach accesses the brain’s innate “spatial-temporal” reasoning ability. This ability, which lies at the core of innovative thinking and sophisticated problem-solving, allows the brain to hold visual, mental representations in short-term memory and to evolve them in both space and time, thinking multiple steps ahead. MIND’s approach consists of language-independent, animated representations of math concepts delivered via the Spatial-Temporal (ST) Math® software games.

Password & Envision Math Teacher Editions (TE)

Your password is sent to you in an email from ST Math Mind Research Institute. Normally, they send them in July. It is detailed in what you are to do. Make sure you bring this with you to your training or have on hand if you are reviewing information for later use. Keep this password in a safe place. Check SPAM if it is not in your direct email.


Teacher Editions will give some insight on the order of the games in ST MATH.

Dedicated Time

In order for people to learn a concept or anything new that has steps to get to the finish line, requires practice. Students really like to work with JiJi and want to finish their time each week.


K-1 is 60 minutes per week

2-4 is 90 minutes per week


Time logged into the computer should be at least in 15-20 minutes at a time for the computer to calculate any positive activity. Less time could possible show your class having alerts or concerns.

ST MATH

Station time is the best time to use ST Math. It can be used in the afternoons while waiting on buses. After the first week or so of school, procedures will be ingrained and time will surface.


We do not set ST Math for homework. As students work through games at school, they can replay them at home.

Learning

Students love JiJi and will want to skip other assignments to get on the iPad. The computer keeps up with the minutes each student is using the program. If they forget to log out, it will cause their minutes to soar! Try to help them practice backing out, before moving stations or giving the iPad to a friend.

How do I add new students?

Adding students to ST MATH takes about 10 minutes and should be done during the station time. Students will need 20 minutes of uninterrupted time to learn their new password. "How to" videos are located in the Teacher Portal. Click here for a video on how to add a new student to your class.

How do I link students to my class from last years?

When former ST MATH students begin the year, they simply sit down and type in their old password. Sometimes it may take a few tries. Tap 3 times in the corner with your curser and link them to your class once they get logged in. You can have several on the computers/iPads at one time trying to log in. Link all of them at once. Note: Computers work better for this process.

What do I do if they can't remember their password?

Do not start a new account. Send a list from your class to Mrs. Bufkin or Mrs. Dupre via email. She will need their full name and their former teacher's name. She can transfer them to your class. Then you must retrain.
