Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!
May 10, 2024
From the desk of: Principal Hoese
Next week is the last FULL WEEK of school! It is wild how fast the time seems to go and how much growth our Lil Steamers have made. Don't forget to take a picture of them and compare it to a picture from August!
This week we finish our AIMSweb spring benchmarking. Next week, students will bring home printed copies of their Fall --> Winter --> Spring benchmark results for families to review on their progress this school year. If there are any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to your respective teachers!
In addition, Thursday, May 16 is FIELD DAY at FES! We will have a ton of fun activities for students to engage in. Additionally information will be sent to families before then.
Have a great weekend,
JAGH

We are down to the final eight days of school, I can't believe it! Shout out to all the educators still going strong, our students need us as much now as they did the first eight days of the school year. Shout out to the families getting their kids to school every day, we continue to need your support to make every school day a great day. And shout out to all the Lil' Steamers, you make every day at FES a great day to be a Steamer!
From the Desk of: Counselor Meumann
I would like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all moms. I thought this was a great description of what a “real mom” is.
A Real Mom:
Emotional, yet the rock.
Tired, but keeps going.
Worried, but full of hope.
Impatient, yet patient.
Overwhelmed, but never quits.
Amazing, even though doubted.
Wonderful, even in the chaos.
Life changer, every single day.

Looking for Parent Feedback - 5 minute survey
This was the first year implementation of the Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH) program at FES. We have seen improvements in many areas with students and staff, but would like to hear from families in regards to what they have experienced this school year.
If you have a couple minutes, we would greatly appreciate your feedback on the following survey: https://iheartckh.com/squrl/8rqfebtt
Kindy 500
Kindergarten students had a great day participating in the Kindy 500. Students took a vision test and written test in order to get their driver's license. They also made a visor and played Transportation Bingo! Students loved getting a citation from our very own Officer Leitzen. Snack was served in our Krispy Kreme donut shop. Students even washed their car in our bubble car wash. The highlight of the day was racing in the afternoon. Special thanks to the high school students, Ms. Pepper, and Officer Leitzen for all your help. Thank you also to our parents for helping your child make their awesome cars. We could not have had a such a successful day without all your help!
4th Grade Field Trip
THANK YOU PTO!
A huge shout out to PTO for funding the 4th grade field trip to the Oakville Historical Society in Mt. Carroll. Students were transported back in time to see a blacksmith, school house, and even were able to make their own butter!

Mr. Tenboer's Room
This past week we got to read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and watched the movie. Students got the chance to compare and contrast the story elements in both the book and the movie using a Venn Diagram. The movie was clearly the best part as everyone got to eat foods from the book while watching the movie. Turns out 2n'd and 3rd graders can eat A LOT!
From the Speech Room
May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month.
To celebrate FES students with hearing loss and communication differences we will “Dress loud” and have a variety of books available the week of May 13-17. All students will be coming home with “Tips for Families” that talk about identifying the signs of language disorders and hearing loss in children. We have yearly hearing screenings completed at school, but I encourage you to talk to your doctor about getting your child’s hearing screened by an audiologist.
Dress up days include:
Monday, May 13: Dress loud! Wear your most colorful clothes
Tuesday, May 14: Wear navy blue for national speech-language-hearing month!
Wednesday, May 15: Mix Match Day
Thursday, May 16: (Field day) Crazy sock day
Friday, May 17: Show your support to our fellow steamers – Wear your favorite Steamer shirt or red and black
