Bucks Blast!

Bucks in Action is our way to showcase the wonderful activities happening in and around our district with students and staff. You can also find more photos on our Facebook page.

Since 2020, students at Ottawa Elementary have been creating valentines for the community. The Valentines are delivered to the senior center and other area organizations to help brighten people's day!

The purchase of portable bleachers allowed the middle school girls' basketball team to host a game at the middle school on Wednesday, February 22nd. This was the first game held at the middle school in over eight years. The district purchased the bleachers in conjunction with a donation from Jeff Letcher in memory of the late Joe and Betty Letcher. The bleachers were installed with help from some of our community members which were coordinated by Jeff Griffin.

March 20th was the First Day of Spring. The picture below is linked to some general safety tips as we begin to spend more time outside.

Buchanan Community - BHS Color Guard students are collecting returnable cans and bottles to help offset color guard costs! Help our color guard by bringing your returnable cans and bottles to Buchanan High School! Donations can be dropped off at the High School office on weekdays from 7:30 am-3:30 pm.

March is Women's History Month and River St. Joe, a Michigan-based farm-to-table restaurant in Buchanan, and Fernwood Botanical Garden in Niles teamed up to promote women and girls pursuing careers in the sciences. Both organizations emphasize the importance of exposing girls at a young age to areas of STEM and encourage them to not be limited in what they want to do. Introducing girls to successful and empowering female role models is the first step. This video features high school science teacher Mrs. Melissa Frost and Buchanan High School students. In order to do that, we ask that you follow our Chain of Command process shown in the diagram. On the left side of the process chart, you will see the common areas of district programming, and then following to the right would be the next step(s) in the Chain of Command for that district program area. Please start by contacting the staff member listed in the second box of each program area. The contact information for our leadership staff members with responsibility for addressing concerns is listed at the

top of the diagram. Other contact information for building staff is available on our website in the “Staff Directory” section of each building’s web page. It is expected that most issues should be able to be resolved at these initial steps in the Chain of Command.

Buchanan Community Schools is a school district located in Buchanan, Michigan. In 2020, Buchanan was named the Nicest City in America and is known for its community concerts and parades. Buchanan Community Schools has over 1500 students and over 200 employees. The school district has four schools based on grade bands, Ottawa- PreK-1, Moccasin-2-4, Buchanan Middle School 5-7, and Buchanan High School 8-12.
