Adventure and Learning in the Great Outdoors
Fourth-graders embraced the spirit of adventure at Camp MacLean in Burlington, Wisconsin, last week, marking our school’s 36th year of this unforgettable tradition.
Outdoor education offers students a powerful mix of hands-on learning and personal growth. At Camp MacLean, students tackled challenges together, built teamwork skills, and explored nature through activities designed to stretch both their minds and hearts. As seen in these photos, their smiles and focus say it all—learning outside the classroom can be both meaningful and memorable.

School Shines at ICTM Competition
Over 200 students across grades 3–5 showcased their math skills in this year’s Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) competition. Students participated in individual and group events across three competitions throughout the school year. We're proud to announce that both third- and fourth-grades earned 1st place in the state, while fifth-grade secured an impressive 3rd place. Congratulations to all our young mathematicians for their hard work and achievement!
5th-Graders Introduced to DW
Fifth-graders this week toured their next stop in their D103 journey - Daniel Wright. Students were given a musical welcome and enjoyed a glimpse into the classrooms where they would spend their next three years beginning in August. If you missed Principal Jessica Groncki's presentation, the PowerPoint is available to view.
5th-Grade Summer Reading
Over the summer, incoming sixth-grade students are being asked to read a book that they will discuss in class when they start at Daniel Wright in August. Please take a moment to review the summer reading lists created by the English Language Arts teachers.
Why does Summer Reading matter? Research shows that students who read consistently over the summer are stronger students during the school year. District 103 is committed to developing strong reading, writing, and thinking skills. We also recommend that students read a variety of material during the summer.
Student Medication Pick Up
Please stop by the nurse's office before Thursday, June 5, to pick up any of your child's medication that they take at school. Unclaimed medication will be disposed of after that date.
Last Call - Communication Survey
Please take 3-5 minutes to respond to our District 103 Communication Survey. As a district, we are examining the best methods to connect with families. Feedback from this survey will help us update our District 103 communication guidelines. Thank you.
D103 Belonging Survey
Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey on belonging. The purpose of this survey is to better understand experiences and perceptions related to belonging within our school community. Your responses will help us identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth as we work to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.
Volunteers Sought for Discipline Meeting
District 103 is seeking six to eight parent volunteers to sit on a state required Parent Advisory Committee for Student Discipline policy and procedures. The time commitment is 1.5 hours on Tuesday, June 10, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., at the District 103 Administrative Office located at 111 Barclay Boulevard, Lincolnshire. The committee will review our current policy on student discipline: disruptive classroom behavior, school bus safety procedures, and the dissemination of student conduct information. If you are interested in participating in the committee meeting, please complete this Google interest form by Friday, June 6.
Celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
Each May, we honor the cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The celebration began in the 1970s thanks to Jeanie Jew, who advocated for greater recognition of Asian American heritage. In 1992, May was officially designated as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
May was chosen to mark two key events: the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants in 1843 and the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869, built in part by Chinese workers.
It’s a meaningful time for our children to learn about the diverse traditions and stories that shape our community—and to build appreciation for the cultures around them.
