An update for families from Centennial Public School
Centennial Connection - Update for Families - August 28, 2023
Dear Centennial Families -
One week to go before students and families return to Centennial and we are getting excited! We hope that all families have had a good summer! We look forward to welcoming students to school, and an extra special welcome to those families new to Centennial. You are part of a wonderful school community!
Over the summer the school has undergone a significant washroom renovation - and it is not quite finished yet! The goal is that everything will be completed by the end of the week so that it is ready for students. Rather than having a large washroom "block" with toilet stalls and communal sinks, Centennial now has individual gender neutral washrooms, each with its own toilet, sink, soap, and paper towels. Some of these will be designated for primary students (off the primary hallway) and others will be designated junior (off the junior hallway). We are thankful for the work of the LDSB team, contractors, and various trades who have been working tirelessly to complete the new washrooms.
We encourage families to use the school yard and to come onto the grounds before school starts. We would caution all families that there are construction vehicles and materials on the back tarmac, and that construction crews will continue to be at Centennial this coming week.
We have also experienced an influx of registrations this summer, and we will continue to work on developing class lists as the week progresses. On Friday September 1st in the later part of the afternoon, all families can expect to receive an email indicating their child's class placement for Tuesday September 5th. This will include the grade and classroom teacher. Please note that all class placements are tentative and are subject to change at the end of the second week of school. Given Ministry of Education class cap sizes as well as staffing consideration that is determined by a central committee of the Limestone District School Board, class organization and size may change. Any and all class changes will take place at the end of the second week of school. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we continue to welcome new families to the area.
The school office will open on Monday August 28th and will be open all week from 8:30-4:30pm. Should you have updated contact information, please feel free to contact the school. Please note that we are not able to share classroom placement information over the phone. All classroom placement communication will take place by email on Friday late afternoon.
The Centennial Connection is a weekly communication sent to families each weekend, that will provide families with information about the school, upcoming activities, staff updates, as well as community and district information. Next Sunday, September 3rd, the next edition of the Centennial Connection will be sent out that will have further details about the school.
As always, the school website and twitter feed are great sources of information. We are working on updating these platforms to provide the most up to date information.
We wish all families a wonderful last week of summer holidays and we are looking forward to seeing everyone in just over a week! School begins on Tuesday September 5th.

What Do I Need For School?
All school supplies that students need for their learning and work will be provided by Centennial Public School. Sometimes students prefer to have their own pencil case with pencils/markers, but it not a requirement.
Students do need to come to school with:
- Indoor, non-marking athletic type of shoes
- Water bottle with child's name clearly marked (we have bottle filling stations, not fountains)
- Nut-free snacks and lunch
- items of value (sentimental or monetary)
- any kind of weapon (for example, a Swiss Army knife)
- any kind of toy that could be a replica weapon (for example, a toy gun)
- electronics of any kind
- jewelry
- make-up
- anything scented
- anything with nuts (please ensure all lunches and snacks are nut-free)
- toys and stuffies
Thank you for keeping these items at home. Sometimes a quick check of a backpack can ensure that treasures do not come to school. Thank you for understanding that we are not responsible for lost, broken or stolen personal items.
