Further Careers Development in KS3
We are thrilled to share the recent sessions that our Year 7, 8, and 9 students participated in with Into University. These engaging workshops focused on essential skills for various career paths, strategies to maximise their learning in school, and the diverse pathways for life after year 11.
Throughout the sessions, our students demonstrated exemplary behaviour and a high level of engagement. They actively participated in discussions and collaborated with their peers.
The workshops emphasised important skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving—abilities that are not only vital for future careers but are also necessary for their academic success. Students learned how to apply these skills in their daily school activities, encouraging a proactive approach to their education.
The Into University programme will continue with sessions every year and visits later on this term!
Black History Month at Lister
During this week at Lister, Black History Month is being explored in a series of readings related to black history, taking place in our library at break and lunch time. We will also be having a film night dedicated to BHM when we are showing 'Hidden Figures' - and excellent film rated, highly rated on movie data bases.
During the month we are shining a light on some of our black heroes - for example, our library will have a specific display of black authors and writers. Of course, we want to make sure that this celebration is not for one month a year and so whilst we will be looking closely at black history and heroes in our curriculum this month, throughout the year we have numerous opportunities to celebrate the multitude of cultures that make up our school community.
Newham Family Hub Network
As you know, we at the Lister News desk always try to keep connected to the wider Newham community, so that we can highlight for parents and carers any services that might be helpful. Lots of these services are available through the Newham Family Hub. What is the Newham Family Hub Network? A ‘one stop shop’ for general advice and guidance on a range of needs and services.
Families can access various support including health services (antenatal, maternity, health visitor, school nurses), infant feeding support, early years’ education and childcare, youth services, parenting and relationship support and more!
Family Hubs are designed to offer early support to children, young people and families, building upon the existing Early Help offer. We want to join up and improve services delivered through Family Hubs in Newham, ensuring all families can access the support they need.
Online Tutors for Lister Students
Many of you may want to research online tutors to support your child's academic progress. However, the title 'Tutor' is not protected and so anyone can claim to be a tutor. It is important that you thoroughly research tutors to ensure they have the correct accreditation. This link takes you to some information regarding online tutors and how to keep your children safe.
