Greetings Phalen Virtual Leadership Academy Families,

Happy Friday! Happy Veteran's Day! We achieved Week 14 at PLA Virtual! How are you doing with Daylight Savings Time changes? Its's challenging for me with it getting dark early, so please be sure to find time to enjoy the sunshine and daylight, as it does not last quite as long.

We are grateful for our active duty and Veteran's who serve or have served our country. We hope you enjoyed the Ceremony of Honor developed and orchestrated by our very own Founding Middle School Social Studies Teacher, Mrs. Marcy Groulik. She pours her heart and effort into this annually to pay tribute and honor to Veteran's and active duty military.

We appreciate our Veteran Speakers and all the thoughtful questions from our scholars. A special shout-out to Scholar Jonathan C. for his awesome concluding question for all Veteran's. We appreciate everyone who participated in our program. We extend a special thanks to Mrs. Groulik and Mrs. Putt for orchestrating and ensuring yet another great Veteran's Day Assembly.

Learn the four diploma types students can earn in the state of Indiana

Are you interested in the Academic Honors Diploma and Dual Credit Courses? Text Mrs. Moses at 317-992-0576 to set up a conference time. Your student might be able to start as soon as January 2024! The deadline for signing up is November 17, 2023.

Calling all innovators!

Trine University is hosting the Innovation Challenge! Do you have an idea for a business or an answer to a worldwide or local problem? You should present it!

There is a $1,000 prize for the high school student who wins!

The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana’s Mobile Market is available to all Northwest Indiana residents in need of food assistance. Each Market will provide FREE grains, fruits, vegetables and protein to individuals and families. Mobile Market travels to a different community each week, distributing healthy food to communities across the Region. Often, the Food Bank partners with community organizations to supply additional services and resources.

Individuals should have a valid proof of Indiana residency to access the Market Services & are asked to bring boxes or bags to carry items.

As we know, scholars cannot learn if they are not present in class. We also understand that there may be an occasion when a scholar must miss a day. Although we strive to keep these days to a minimum, it is important that I am aware of scholar absence so that their attendance can be tracked accurately. As the attendance clerk it is my job to help in any way with ensuring that your scholar’s attendance is accurate. As Learning Coaches you can help me by staying in constant communication. Even if your scholar is only going to miss one period of class, it is imperative that I am aware so that I can mark your scholar’s attendance appropriately. Here’s a few options for contacting me about your scholar’s attendance:

The latest news and information from schools in the Phalen Leadership Academies Network are now available on smartphones and mobile devices with a new mobile app launching today. PLA is working to expand its communications outreach with a mobile app that is now available in the online iTunes® and Google Play® app stores for free.

The mobile app will offer a constantly updated feed of school and network news and events with photos and links to PLA school websites. The app can also be customized by the user by selecting the schools they are most interested in for news and updates. Users can also choose to receive push notifications to get breaking news, updates about school closures, calendar changes, or even sports updates.
